Climategate 2

Having failed to clean up its act after the release of the climategate emails two years ago, the field of climate science is about to turned upside down all over again. Today there was another release of hacked emails, written by the same collection of global warming scientists. Once again, these emails show that these scientists are anything but scientists. Instead, they seem far more interested in campaigning for a certain result, regardless of the science. A few quotes:

From Phil Jones:

  • “Basic problem is that all models are wrong – not got enough middle and low level clouds.”
  • “I’ve been told that IPCC is above national [Freedom of Information] Acts. One way to cover yourself and all those working in AR5 [the next IPCC report] would be to delete all emails at the end of the process.”
  • “Any work we have done in the past is done on the back of the research grants we get – and has to be well hidden. I’ve discussed this with the main funder (US Dept of Energy) in the past and they are happy about not releasing the original station data.”

Considering that the Department of Energy is a government agency, I don’t see how they can be “happy about not releasing the original station data.”

From Michael Man:

  • “The important thing is to make sure they’re loosing the PR battle. That’s what the site [Real Climate] is about.”
  • “By the way, when is Tom C going to formally publish his roughly 1500 year reconstruction??? It would help the cause to be able to refer to that reconstruction as confirming Mann and Jones, etc.”
  • “I gave up on Judith Curry a while ago. I don’t know what she think’s she’s doing, but its not helping the cause”

When does real science ever have anything to do with help any “cause”? I thought science was the objective gathering of knowledge in order to better understand the universe?

There is lots more. However, Raymond Bradley, who in the first climategate emails revealed his dedication to science when he said he wanted to “vomit” in response to the efforts of the other global warming scientists to twist the process of science, once again sums up the weak science behind the work of Michael Mann and Phil Jones:

I’m sure you agree–the Mann/Jones GRL paper was truly pathetic and should never have been published. I don’t want to be associated with that 2000 year “reconstruction”.

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

I know you have done a few spots on Coast to Coast Am, I thought you might want to know another of there guests astronomer “skeptic” Phil Plait is spinning like crazy trying to claim this is nothing…like last time.

  • Not only was there the “smoking gun” of Dr. Mann’s “trick” of erasing the 500 year Medieval Warming, but if you searched that database with the string “water AND vapor” you would get 17 more “smoking guns” where it was clear Jones and Mann know very water vapor is by far the greatest “greenhouse gas,” per the work of John Tyndall in 1857!

CO2 is a “trace gas” in air, insignificant by definition, 1/7th the absorber of IR, heat energy, from sunlight as water vapor which has 80 times as many molecules captures 560 times as much heat making 99.8% of all “global warming.” CO2 does only 0.2% of it.

Carbon combustion generates 80% of our energy. Control and taxing of carbon would give the elected ruling class more power and money than anything since the Magna Carta of 1215 AD.

The original posting on the russian site appears to have been withdrawn. Are there any additional sources for a clean file?

I heard a bit of your radio appearance on Coast to Coast tonight. I would love to find out if you have any complete writings on climate change. You were very convincing in your talk and your attitude. I would like to find a place that I could send a person to where they could get the same type of info in writing.

  • I have not yet written a book on climate change. However, I have written about the subject extensively on Behind the Black. If you click on the “Essays and Commentaries” link in the right hand column, you will be able to find a number of essays there.

Even better, use the search box at the bottom of the right hand column. Search for “climate change” or “climategate” will bring up a lot of links. Also trying searching under “whitewash.”

Mr. Zimmerman, I caught a bit of your CtoC interview this morning and you were very, very good, thank you! I rmember my elation when the 1st batch of Climategate emails was released and have been disappointed by the ability of the Red Greens to counter attack. Hopefully we climate realist have learned the lessons. Bookmarked Behind the Black, bravo.

  • Using the link provided I notes they claim the data was released, I asked for a link to the raw data, see below:

You may click on your name and/or comment to edit. ( 4 minutes and 48 seconds)

ok well, you claim, “they” released the data, can you serve up a link so I can down load it and make an informed decision myself, after all this data is only numerical in nature, so it can be statistically analysed and with a program like megastat, that I have. I should be able to resolve the data questions for myself. Remember the data after all is said and done is only numbers, lets see where they lead us

Emails “leaked” from ONE university University of Anglia do not make from “Climegate” despite Sarah Palin and Faux News

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2010/jul/07/climate-emails-question-answer

Or this article “Climate Gate is a Distraction” I would add a dangerous distraction.
    http://www.cambridgenetwork.co.uk/news/article/default.aspx?objid=86108

Of course, go ahead and ride your hummers and ATW and who cares about fires in Texas, floods on the East Coast, polar ice melting, hey, I like it –
it’s 70 degrees in northern California in Decembe these days!

  • Lonnie,

I have previously given links where you can download the entire zip file of emails. However, below is a link to a searchable database of all the emails. It is very usable.

This database now also includes the 2009 climategate emails as well.

Why is it that They blame Us for Global Warming Yet They force Us to use the Cars and Trucks They manufacture. They force us to force to use Fossil fuels They manufacture. They refuse to create or release any alturnatives. They continue to force Us to use the Products which are causing the current problems, Yet We are the Cause of the Global Warming Problem. It is all about Money. Why would They change their curent thinking, They feel We are the the cause of Global Warming and the problems We face. When will We wake up to the Fact that we are being Deceived in more ways than this Problem. The current Paradigm if Rife with Greed and Corruption. When will we Wake up and accept Responsibility for our own Destiny .Why do We just accept the Lies that are going on around us and still think any thing is going to change. I Believe We are Spiritual Beings having a Human Existance. This current situation is being perpatrated against our Morals and every thing we Believe in on a daily basis. We Must Change it.

  • Jim

    Robert,
Just listened to your interview on coasttocoast, and quite honestly I find that you just throw out suppositions without any facts behind them.
Lets take your position that money is behind all the science on global warming. So please tell me why National Academy of Sciences, American Geophysical Union, American Physical Society, American Chemical Society, Royal Society of UK, International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics, American Meteorological Society, NOAA, World Meteorological Society, American Institute of Physics, Crop Science Society of America, American Society of Plant Biologists, and many many many others all say:
    1. Global warming is real and
    2. Man plays a significant role in it and
    3. There are real reasons to be concerned about this.

They all said this when George Bush was President, and Republicans controlled both houses. You would think that if funding was coming from the government and they were worried about that, they would not have made those statements.

Please tell me one, JUST ONE, scientific organization that says global warming is not real, and man absolutely plays no role in it. Just one, Robert. I would love to go back to driving my SUV.

  • Jim

Well said, Jill. The constant drumbeat from the right about the emails is the only distraction left, and distractions are all that’s left for them. Six independent investigations took place on the emails, and all said that there was no manipulation of data. Period.
And as far as all the weather related catastrophes in the past couple of years (as well as non-catastrophes like 68 degrees here in New York yesterday, a new record!), who you going to believe, Rush Limbaugh, or your own lying eyes?

  • TashaTchin

The climate trend is toward cooling, not warming. Warming stopped years ago but the “scientists” wanting grants to keep coming need to follow the “party line” that dictates that there is warming and man is responsible. This has never been about science — it’s all about the Benjamin$. The point of the AGW “science” is give the moneyed interests a new commodity market (carbon credits) to create derivitaves around. (They did this with mortgages and we all know how well that worked our for us, don’t we?) Democrats and Republicans were both looking to make a killing for themselves and their political patrons. Bloomberg financial news let this inconvenient truth about the derivatives marketeering out of the bag just as Climategate 1 was starting to break. People need to do their research on the money because that’s what’s driving this train.

Jill, did you love the bitter cold weather you had up north last year because my relatives certainly didn’t! This year down here in Los Angeles we have lots of early snow in our local mountains and at the beach it has been damn cold most of the year. So cold in fact that my plants went to seed before mid-summer and my cymbidiums are near ready to flower, thinking that they have already had one winter already and it is time for spring to arrive. You “Warmists” need to do your homework on ice ages because that is where we are headed — the interglacial period looks to be coming to an end and the glaciation is on its way. And, BTW, the polar ice is growing in Antartica which is why so much ice is going into the sea. In the north, the polar ice was melting — but from the underside — due to volcanic activity heating up the shallow sea under the Arctic ice. Nothing anthropogenic about volcanoes, right Jill?

Besides, if there really was a problem then the Western governments would not be importing people from lower per capita carbon footprint countries (and higher birthrates) into our higher per capita carbon footprint countries. I=PAT, after all. So, since Western governments haven’t demanded a moratorium on all Third World immigration, there must not be a carbon problem. Otherwise, we would only be allowed to import people from countries with similar per capita carbon footprints and low fertility. Which is exactly the opposite of what Western governments are doing. That is illogical if we truly need to reduce our carbon footprint in order to save the Earth.
