A space plane from China?
The images don’t provide much information, and most of the article is empty speculation. Nonetheless, China is building something.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

Interesting…I remember seeing that photo in Aviation Week several years ago accompanied by similar speculation. Not sure what’s changed since then? It did give me ideas of what to use as motivations for my behind-the-scenes antagonists in “Perigee”.
The Chinese are wading into our territory in a number of ways: stealth technology, ASAT capabilities…I don’t know that we should consider them a direct threat to our interests (yet) but they’re certainly an indirect one.
I just do not see a practical application for this vehicle.
Any spy equipment that I can think of would be easier and cheaper to place in orbit with a conventional craft/satellite. The same with any weapon. Just no need.
Even as a test bed its just not a good size.
As a propaganda piece it will not get good US airplay thus fall short of its goal. Unless its only for internal consumption then it will work well on the Chinese people. They need a reason to feel good.
