Communism fails again, and the Western intellectual elite puts blinders on so they don’t have to see it.
Communism fails again, and the Western intellectual elite puts blinders on so they don’t have to see it.
Communism and top-down state control of human activity has always failed in the past, continues to fail in the present, and will always fail in the future — no matter how good or sincere the intentions might be. If you want to make life better for people, give them freedom and then try to persuade them to do the right thing. Applying force simply does not work.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

The goal is control. Governments can not help themselves, this government, that government, all government, and will always trend towards all such schemes and deceptions to accomplish it.
The only scheme that has been arranged by man to counter act it? Of course, the Constitution. And that is why it is always under pressure from government because the government is the animal that it is and can not be what it is not.
The only answer? Of course, the people must detach from the comfort of their good and safe lives and retake what has been perverted by their fellow citizens that have inhabited government and driven it to these extremes. Why has that happened? Because it is governments nature.
The people of America must take it all back. But what, IMO, is in the process of being perpetrated today by this and recently previous governments are obligations so tremendously huge that the people will be burdened with them for eternity and so it will be left government to ensure that the people meet their obligations. Through what ever means necessary, bar none, including the elimination of that thing that was created by a bunch of intellectual nerds of their day who understood the abuses of government and the nature of man, the Constitution.
I wonder how this will effect “Joe for oil”?
“The more you tighten your grip, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.”
Princess Leia to Darth Vader.
Based on the Thomas Merton quote.
Cotour, you are of course correct – the Constitution was written specifically to restrain Fed Gov’t excess. It just stuns & amazes me that so many people still think Socialism or Communism is a good idea, when we have numerous & repeated examples that it not only fails miserably & completely, but it almost ALWAYS ends in tyranny & Totalitarianism. Chavez’s regime in Venezuela is only the latest example…
But Chris, it all sounds sooo good and easy.
Chris,
Some people think that the US is different, and that socialism will work here. They are wrong, of course, but they don’t know it.
To expand on your comment:
The difference between the US and other countries is our freedom. If you take that away, we are just like every other country. We don’t have better people, because the people we have come from every other country. Outside of our brand of freedom, we are just like every other country, and socialism won’t work any better here than it has worked elsewhere.
American exceptionalism isn’t that we are more exceptional as a people than everybody else, we *are* everybody else. American exceptionalism is our freedom to excel in our own ways, not in the limited ways that are dictated by someone else. Sometimes we excell spectacularly, and sometimes we fail spectacularly. Socialism would fail just as spectacularly here as it does everywhere else.
The young people in this country, and I would argue the middle aged don’t know what socialism or communism is, to many of these people, this would be a new invention, one that would fail spectacularly. Too many in this country do not know the adversity of the Russians or East Germany!
