In a paper published Thursday in Nature, researchers are challenging one long-held conception about how quickly the universe began warming during this transition period. Based on observations of X-ray emissions from binary star systems, as well as new mathematical models, cosmologists at Tel Aviv University and Harvard say that heating of the universe progressed much more slowly, and uniformly, than previously thought.

From the perspective of an civilian without a formal education as a “rocket scientist”…Any theory that must be “re-adjusted” every time actual data becomes available would cause me to question the basic veracity of the underlying theory itself. From what I understand, the most compelling evidence of the big bang is the redshifting of light from distant objects indicating that they are moving away from us. But the size of the universe calculated through this method would disprove the theory of relativity, unless you can create another theory that the universe was able to expand at superluminal speeds in the very beginning. And if E=MC2, what has been happening to all that energy that matter has been transformed into for the past 13 billion years? Doesn’t M=E/C2 as well? Could energy somehow be transformed back into matter in deep space? would subatomic hydrogen particles popping into existence cause the cosmic background radiation and explain dark matter?
