Death threats to vegan restaurant owners for eating meat again
Fascists: The owners of a chain of vegan restaurants in California are now faced with boycotts and death threats because, after 40 years of being vegetarians, they have started eating meat again.
Protesters outside of the Cafe Gratitude restaurant in Venice, Calif., over the weekend carried signs that read “It’s not food/It’s violence” and “No animal is grateful to die.” One poster depicted a cow hanging from a rope with the speech bubble “No gracias, madre!” A stick figure of Matthew held up a knife over a pool of blood and said, “I love you…”
The Engelharts told the Hollywood Reporter that they have been receiving death threats. “People have taken up the mob mentality,” Matthew said. “It saddens me that the choices we made in the privacy of our home would lead people to feel so betrayed that it’s elevated to threats on our lives.”
How dare they leave the reservation of liberal/leftwing beliefs and do something different? How dare they? Time to set up concentration camps for traitors like these!
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

When you hold yourself up as an example of a certain lifestyle or way of thinking (which in this case was done for profit as well), don’t be surprised when there is a backlash when you turn your back on the beliefs of those who followed you. I’m not excusing the death threats, but rather explaining human nature which is the same regardless whether one eats animal products or not. People are pissed when they feel they have be deceived.
I consider this story to be good evidence of the coming dark age and the end of tolerance and freedom in America. Nothing here justifies death threats. Nothing.
If people are annoyed they can simply find another restaurant. Or they can show their tolerance and continue to buy the product, since nothing these owners were doing was changing the product they sold in their restaurants. But death threats? Please. This is the behavior of jackbooted thugs who think it appropriate to pound their heels into anyone who defies them.
Living in the S.F. Bay Area perhaps I’ve grown to accustomed to the intolerance of the progressive-left where its not uncommon to hear people flippantly imply that anyone who thinks differently from the “progressive ideology” should be eliminated. I have absolutely no doubt, that if given half a chance, at least 20% to 30% of the people in this area would instantly turn into Brownshirts and march a good percentage of the rest of the population off to re-education camps or worse. This story doesn’t surprise me one bit, except for the fact that someone finds it surprising.
However, with that said, I again think this is more about human nature and not very unique to our current political climate. Not to long ago, death threats were leveled against minorities and others who opposed racial segregation. We got through that ugly period in our history and hopefully we’ll get through this as well.
