Facebook moves to protect Islam from criticism

Please consider donating to Behind the Black, by giving either a one-time contribution or a regular subscription, as outlined in the tip jar to the right. Your support will allow me to continue covering science and culture as I have for the past twenty years, independent and free from any outside influence.

Even while Facebook and Twitter allow violent threats to be posted against critics of Islam, the sites are moving to censor and block posts by those critics.

What happened on that day was that Facebook and Twitter began to censor Jihad Watch as “hate speech,” in accordance with the assurances they had given to the European Union.

Facebook, immediately after concluding an agreement with the European Union, began moving aggressively against foes of jihad terror and mass Muslim migration in the West. Nina Rosenwald, the president and founder of the conservative think tank Gatestone Institute, on June 2, 2016 recorded Facebook’s haste to implement the new speech regulations: “On Tuesday, the European Union (EU) announced a new online speech code to be enforced by four major tech companies, including Facebook and YouTube. On Wednesday, Facebook deleted the account of Ingrid Carlqvist, Gatestone’s Swedish expert.”

Carlqvist’s crime, according to Rosenwald, was to take note of real crimes by Muslim migrants: “Ingrid had posted our latest video to her Facebook feed—called ‘Sweden’s Migrant Rape Epidemic.” In that video, said Rosenwald, “Ingrid calmly lays out the facts and statistics, all of which are meticulously researched.” Rosenwald added that the video was adapted from a “research paper that Gatestone published last year. The video has gone viral—racking up more than 80,000 views in its first two days. But the EU is quite candid: it is applying a political lens to their censorship…. ”

This is just one example. The article gives others, including examples where death threats against Islam’s critics are allowed to remain online.

Just one of many reasons I will have nothing to do with Facebook or Twitter.

My lifelong liberalism and allegiance to the Democrat Party evaporated the night I watched Ted Kennedy and Joe Biden conduct their high tech lynching of my fellow Georgian, Clarence Thomas. The scales fell from my eyes when I understood that “tolerant” liberals loved black people…as long as they remained subservient. I haven’t voted for a Democrat since.

But even after studying them all these years since, I am stumped as to why they are so defensive of not only a religion (when all religion seems anathema to them) but one that is 180 degrees to the humanist philosophy they insist they represent.

Is it just general anti-Americanism, or is it something more that that?

  • Cotour

No, its political correctness and social justice, this is their game plan and they will execute it because of they told everyone what they actually believed no one would ever vote again for them. So it all has to be a lie.

Both of these concepts are 180 degrees from everyone’s American interests, its just that Democrats can use these techniques because they are void of actual principles (S.O.M.) and will use anything and everything in their quest for the acquisition of power and the retention of power. At that point they get to call you a racist, or a homophobe, or a fascist, or an Islamophobe, what ever term that makes them appear to be more moral than you in the public’s eye.

Anti American? No, you are anti American for suggesting such a thing. Actually putting limits on spending, or who can come to this country etc. You are the problem, you have no compassion, you are not moral, you are mean and do not care about CHILDREN!.

(Thats what they will try to tell you anyway. The people seem to be catching on to this scam though)

    eddie–
Right with you on Clarence Thomas– a great man, compelling (classic-American) story, clear thinker. Saw him speak 1x at Hillsdale College. Incidentally, he and his wife are RV people, and they enjoy driving around the Country on vacations.
I’d expand briefly on what Cotour said (ref islam/democrat/leftists)– The left embraces “post modernism” in all it’s manifestations, and views the United States as a historical colonial oppressor. They view the Founding of the Country as inherently illegitimate therefore everything we have ever done is “wrong,” (which includes our Judeo/Christian heritage) and anything/everything that opposes America is therefore “good.” And that manifests itself, in part, as phony “social-justice” and Orwellian mind-control known as Political Correctness.
-Ultimately, they don’t really care about islam as a religion, it’s just another Tool & Mean’s to their devious End’s.

    Guys……
Do you not realize this [deleted] we are currently plowing through is not a zero sum game…
Its perfectly possible to be left wing in politics and NOT agree with the snowflakes, the fascists ( I agree with Bobs use of the term ), and the general rabble rousers …..
I implore you,…. the actions of a small minority should not paint a whole HALF of the political spectrum in a bad color..,
Just as an example , I was raised in the town which houses the national head quarters of the national front… a U.K. ultra right wing group …. racist horrible bastards …
When I refer to right wing politics I no more refer to the national front than I do Micky mouse…
    Words matter guys….
Please do not demonize a whole political spectrum over the actions of a small but noisy minority….

  • Lee S

And just for the record….. Yes, left winger as I am, I consider the spread of Islam a problem…. however consider this….
About 1400 years after the start of Christianity came the crusades and the Spanish Inquisition…. We are now about 1400 years after the start of Islam…
I believe all religions need to go through this nonsense and emerge on the other side better for it…..
Tbh… its either that or they will get wiped out… don’t underestimate the Europeans 😉

Wayne, they are out there, as you well know. I deal with the public every day, they ARE out there.

Lee S. seems to tend to see past them, “like water under the bridge”.

  • Lee: You may not have been reading all the recent comments, but I have a strict rule about the use of obscenities on Behind the Black: They are not permitted. Just because the rest of the world wishes to descend into crudeness does not require me or my website or anyone who wants to contribute to it to do so as well. It is very easy to find a good and clean word to express yourself with. In fact, you will find that finding a clean word will force you to think more clearly, with less emotion and more deliberation.

I have deleted the four-letter word from your comment. I am issuing you the same warning I give to anyone else, that if you do it again (which I honestly do not expect), I will have to ban you.

  • Lee S. You are making excuses for evil. You should recognize this.

Moreover, it is shameful that you apparently feel more outrage over the fact that someone has accused the left and Islam of doing bad things today, then the bad things that each is actually doing.

The left’s track record is quite horrible, and justifies my overall conclusions about it. Historically, whenever the left has obtained power, it routinely abused that power. Your country might be an exception that proves the rule. And the rule includes Russia, China, Cuba, Venezuela, East Berlin, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, the Baltic states, and North Korea, as the worst examples of tyranny in the name of the left. Then there are the examples of economic collapse, such as Chile, Argentina, Vietnam, India, Great Britain, and the inner cities of the United States. In these latter cases, for many reasons, the left has not yet descended into full tyranny, or has been rejected (at least temporarily), but the track record is bad, and consistent.

Islam meanwhile today is the source of literally tens of thousands of terrorist attacks, in only the past two decades. The Crusades occurred a thousand years ago, and involved nothing comparable. That you think there is a comparison indicates an ignorance of history that is appalling.

I repeat: you keep giving excuses. For example, you say you don’t have time to read my essays on Israel, but you seem to have found the time to write plenty of comments recently here. The essays won’t take more than twenty minutes to read. You might learn something. You might also find out that your conclusions are mistaken.

But then, that can’t be allowed. Your precious beliefs mustn’t be threatened with facts. You might find, that in the bowels of Christ, you might be mistaken.

I want to thank the Zman for posting this Jacob Bronowski video.

Besides playing chess another pass time in my youth was watching hours and hours of shows like Jacob Bronowski’s “Ascent of man”. His voice and observations inhabit the dark recesses of my mind. But I forgot who it was who hosted the shows.

  • Cotour: You are welcome. One of my prime mottos in life is the quote by Cromwell by Bronowski in this episode. We must all continually consider it possible we are mistaken. Only then can we learn.

  • Cotour

And this show “The Western Tradition” with Eugene Weber. Its all flooding back, I could not remember until I saw Bronowski.

I loved these shows and they filled my head with as many questions as they answered and are some justification for the existence of PBS (Public Broadcasting Service). Only I came out the other side understanding existence in a more primarily Conservative rather than Liberal context.

I am going to watch them all again.

Bob, I apologize for my language, I do tend to get a bit sweary when wound up…. it’s my English working class background ( that’s my excuse anyway😂)
Please drop the link to your essays here once more…. I am going to read them before I make any further comments… it may take me a while… I’m bi-polar and currently “enjoying” a manic phase, so my concentration level is pretty low…. but I beg you and the other esteemed contributors here to re-read my post above…. I’m no apologists for Islam… ( indeed quite the opposite..) and I seek only to reclaim the term “the left” from the freaks and extremists… It is quite possible to be left and fiscally responsible, and not decend into communism and anarchy….

  • Cotour

    Lee S,

You have used a whole plethora of reasons, excuses and mental conditions to explain the complexities of your thinking and reason. If you are an average representation of the thinking of the English or the “new” Swede then I suggest you find some bunker to live in, you are going to need it.

At some point reality will visit you, and no level of understanding or compassion for your fellow man will be saving you..

  • Lee S

And….. I would be unfaithful to what I truely believe, if I did not point out ( and god knows this is going to make me unpopular around these parts…. but the truth should be spoken…) the 9-11 atrocity was conducted by an Islamic faction which was created by the US in its proxy war with the USSR, and since that day, most every terrorist attack on US soil has been by right wing fanatics…. this is simple fact…
I’m an English man living in Sweden, both the country’s I hold any allegiance to have suffered from Islamic terror attacks in recent years, but I’m also old enough to remember the Birmingham pub bombings ( google it if you can be bothered)…. my home city terrorized by the troubles in Ireland … a strictly Christian argument….
Life is rarely black and white…
Much love and respect for a better world..

Is this how the Israel / Jewish situation becomes reconciled? (Read: Is set off!)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJXdjSrdTBU&list=PLKtFXPgQJlxKnW5a_-5P7qTtkkpS6sNHI

As Lee S. suggests, and I agree on this aspect of his writing, there may at some point be a violent clash and all at once through violence and conquest some level of balance will prevail. This is IMO a situation that will never and can never be resolved through negotiation and compromise.

And like the welfare state who’s parameters of reasonable operation are open ended and who’s borders are continually moved down the road, again and again until it becomes all consuming there at some point in the future where whether we participate or not there will be reconciliation and balance.

Just like any other system whether it be mechanical or conceptual, there will be balance.

And….. This is not true. The vast majority of political violence comes from the left. Nearly all of the terrorism has come from Islamists. https://pjmedia.com/homeland-security/2017/07/09/fact-check-94-percent-of-us-domestic-terrorism-fatalities-are-caused-by-islamic-terrorists/

I am guessing that whomever told you the “right wing” was responsible for the most terrorism probably isn’t so great at correctly assigning groups to political ideologies and there is a high chance they think the NAZI were right wing and not really socialists. This is because the postmodern global left has to scapegoat innocents rather than accept responsibility for their own movement’s actions.

As a European, I don’t think you get good information about the USA. It is all filtered through layers and layers of leftist revisions and fabrications.

I am glad you don’t like the current core beliefs of the global left but they are not some minority. In the USA, they are the ones that control the Democrat party. They are the activists, the funders, the campaign volunteers, the party staff, and the educational instructors. They are the people in power. The media doesn’t cover all of the crazy policies because if the useful idiots knew what was going on, they wouldn’t like it.

Also, the Crusades were in response to the Muslim conquest of North Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, which were Christian lands. There were a lot of things wrong with the various crusades but they were not an act of aggression against Muslims but rather an act of defense. As a European, you should know that the last jihad into Europe was not that long ago and the caliphate of the Ottoman Empire didn’t end until after WWI.

The rise of Islamism today, isn’t the fault of the USA. Islamism predates the Soviet war in Afghanistan. It isn’t just one group or one man but an interconnected host of groups whose histories go back at least to the fall of the Ottoman Empire but they represent an ideology that has motivated all of the previous caliphates.

I agree that religions change over time, but that doesn’t mean we have to be passive victims. If we don’t fight back, they will never change.

One last thing, every leftist needs to watch this man speak.

And just for the record, you still have not yet completed this comment:

I am waiting with baited breath and would appreciate it if you would take the time to complete your remark.

I am glad that you are able and willing to enjoy the benefits of what your taxes (and my taxes, my higher-priced goods and services, and my productivity) provide to you. It would be nice, though, if you expressed your gratitude rather than lord it over us. You may be satisfied with your lack of choice, but we Americans like to have choices for how we spend our hard earned money, and we like to be adult enough to be responsible for our own lives. Well, we right wing Americans do, anyway. Left wingers seem to prefer to let government treat them as children, incapable of making informed decisions of their own. You, Lee S, are not an exception to this apparent rule.

You wrote: “the 9-11 atrocity was conducted by an Islamic faction which was created by the US in its proxy war with the USSR, and since that day, most every terrorist attack on US soil has been by right wing fanatics…. this is simple fact…

Your facts are faulty, but I suppose that, living so far away, we should not expect you to be paying close enough attention to know the actual facts about America.

The only “right wing” terrorist attack on American soil was Oklahoma City, and he was rejected by the right wing group he tried to join. In the meantime, several Islamists have attacked on American soil, such as Boston, Fort Hood, Fort Hood (again), Miami, San Bernardino, shoe bomber, underwear bomber. And that is just off the top of my head. How many right wingers have performed terrorism in your country?

In my experience, in my part of the world, left wingers insist upon PC behavior and language, and anyone who disagrees or fails to comply gets “unfriended.”

Even the (Only) Black Lives Matter groups have silenced anyone who tried to suggest that any other lives matter or, heaven forbid (read: “Black Lives Matter forbid”), that ALL lives matter. Those left-wingers don’t always shut up people with violence, but they do use shut-uppery. They also advocated violence against police, and that is what we got in the following months.

Then there was the Occupy movement (Occupy Wall Street and others), who were not so very peaceful. But then it turned out that their leaders were left-wing terrorists, planning to blow up bridges with Occupy-movement marchers on them.

But no, Lee S, you just keep on being misinformed. While you are at it, you may want to list all those “right wing terrorists” that you think keep attacking on American soil. You may have confused British “right wingers” from your younger day with American ones — and as we have learned, here on Behind The Black, “right wing” has an opposite meaning in Europe than it does in America. Are the rest of your “facts” this faulty?

It is America’s left wing that is racist — just no longer overtly racist. They project their racism onto the right wing, but they advocate policies that assume certain races are inferior and that discourage those races from gaining wealth or real influence.

    Lee S.:

While your enjoying yourself in Sweden basking in all the “free” stuff this is what is going on in your home country.

    http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/muslim-gang-rampaged-through-liverpool-13392480

This leads to my next question: Why have you moved to Sweden from England? And to my next question: Will you be moving back any time soon, or ever? Or you could look at it this way, in time, England will be coming to you.

PS: You indicated that you admired “The Hitch”. I hate to inform you but he would have had no patience for your politics nor your political logic nor your interpretation of your situation in Sweden. He would have reduced you to a quivering “Left of center” mass.
