    However, I think the HAL 9000 computer wanted them to leave the unit in place until it failed…

    Right – don’t wanna get into an “Open the pod bay doors, HAL” situation ! ! Not to make light of the problem on ISS – glad they fixed it, but for some reason, this story just made me think of that scene…
