New York oppresses opposition to gay marriage

Fascists: A New York state court has decided that the state has the right to punish a couple who refused to allow a homosexual wedding on their private property.

The court also sanctioned the state’s requirement that the couple submit to “re-education training” to learn the error of their ways.

“After the agency ruled that the Giffords were guilty of ‘sexual orientation discrimination,’ it fined them $10,000, plus $3,000 in damages and ordered them to implement re-education training classes designed to contradict the couple’s religious beliefs about marriage,” a press release issued following the court decision stated. In order to comply with the order, the couple will have to attend those “re-training” classes or have a “trainer” come to them, according to ADF.

The tyrants in the Soviet Union would be proud. New York is doing this kind of oppressive stuff as well as the communists did!

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

Better, actually. In New York the people support it.

    New York values ?

They mean well. They really do.

They just do not realize people can even have different opinions.
If their power was not so scary it would be almost sad just in just how ignorant they are.

    Actually it’s public accommodations so…

    SCOTUS disagrees with you.

Public accommodation doesn’t trump the first amendment’s allowance for religious freedom.

An interesting argument that challenges the rights of private property owners who open their private property to the public on occasion in New York State. The religious ceremony of marriage is by definition a religious act but you are also creating a contract in civil law I.E. the state that is related to the marriage contract. A contract / document that is a function of the state.

Private property is private, until you open it to the public. A religious ceremony is based in ones private and personal beliefs in religion. And the marriage contract is a legal document that involves the state. A conglomeration of over lapping and interconnected rights on many levels.

When you open your “private” property to the public in the form of an occasional business then that involves income and sales tax and that legally involves the state and the state, specifically New York, has certain equal rights laws duly passed by their legislature related to business. I suppose if you were not compensated for the use of your property the argument would have no gravitas at all. But when you charge a fee then the state sees you as having surrendered some of your privacy and your rights to that absolute privacy. (And nothing is so absolute as we all know)

And the religious ceremony and the certificate you receive from the state saying that you are legally married as per the state in which you have created the legal contract is a function obviously of the state.

What have we learned? Ignorance is not always bliss, especially when you live in a “Sanctuary” State like New York State. When you unknowingly ask the state to be more of a part of your life then chaos can ensue.

Where the rights to privacy and public / state interest is drawn can vary greatly throughout the United States. As far as the “reeducation” is concerned I have looked and can not find any follow up on that subject. To me that sounds much like the Chinese and their “reeducation” camps. People go in, and some times don’t come out.

Just the notion of a government stating that a “reeducation” must be attended seems a bit too far for me, bordering on outrageous and Communistic. Its none of the states business whether your are educated or reeducated in the context of this quasi business. If you CHOOSE to be in business then you must educate yourself as to where that line of acceptable behavior lies within the context of the business that you have chosen exists and that you can operate to.

Your education and “reeducation” will come to you, whether you are able to correctly detect it and understand it is another subject.

    Cotour–
there is something wrong with your reasoning in the first paragraph, but I don’t have the time to address it fully
–just because I charge money for some thing, doesn’t mean I’ve invited the State to become my partner, and one doesn’t lose one’s right, just because money changes hands.

Unfortunately that IS how the state sees it.

If you choose to create the bridge they will cross it. Whether you are aware of creating the situation that you are choosing to create or not.

There are three interests in the United States Of America: 1. The individual / private citizen. 2. The State. and 3. The federal government.

We as private individuals exist within these constructs of governance and the nature of this structure is that that the State and the Federal governments will tend to infringe on the rights of the private citizen.

I am not arguing FOR the State or the Federal government here, I am only identifying what they will tend to do related to duly passed laws that exist within the context of the form of governance that you find yourself existing within.

And as “Free” as we want to see ourselves we do exist within these structures. The solution? For government to have the least amount of influence and disruption of the private individuals life. And there in lies the reality of political warfare and politics, there are many who believe that the collective is paramount over the individual, and we call that “Progressive”. Many others would call it tyranny.
