Please consider supporting my work here at Behind the Black. I keep the website clean from pop-ups and annoying demands. Instead, I depend entirely on my readers to support me. Though this means I am sacrificing some income, it also means that I remain entirely independent from outside pressure. By depending solely on donations and subscriptions from my readers, no one can threaten me with censorship. You don't like what I write, you can simply go elsewhere.

You can support me either by giving a one-time contribution or a regular subscription. There are five ways of doing so:

1. Zelle: This is the only internet method that charges no fees. All you have to do is use the Zelle link at your internet bank and give my name and email address (zimmerman at nasw dot org). What you donate is what I get.

2. Patreon: Go to my website there and pick one of five monthly subscription amounts, or by making a one-time donation.

The Republican battle plan for defunding Obamacare while keeping the government operating.

The Republican battle plan for defunding Obamacare while keeping the government operating.

What makes me skeptical is their fear of having the government shut down, a fear that somehow does not worry the Democrats. While Obama and the Democrats are quite willing to shut everything down to save Obamacare, the Republicans don’t seem to have the same courage. Under these circumstances, they will likely lose the battle.

And why is it that everyone assumes the Republicans will be blamed for the shutdown when they seem to be the ones most interested in avoiding it?

Update: The House has now voted to defund Obamacare but fund the goverment.

Note that the Democrats in the House have once again voted in support of Obamacare, a law that is very clearly destroying the health insurance business.

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

The president will have the option of choosing to shut it down. There comes a time when you will not go any further, this is that time. I believe that the president and the dems, no matter how indignant they seem, will have to concede based on all of the exemptions they have granted. That’s where the logic lies.

(and who has allowed them to grant these exemptions, where does that power to manipulate a set the law come from?)

Let the government be shut down if that’s what it takes, Obamacare is a violation of the Constitution and is the entre to its functional destruction. This is something that must be eliminated from the lives of the American people. Enough is enough.

I hate to say this, but I believe the Republicans will fold like a house of cards. When have they ever demonstrated the intestinal fortitude to risk their political futures to support their ideals. The Dems seem to realize they are in it for the long haul and are willing to sacrifice each other along the way on their glorious march to a Utopian future. The Republicans on the other hand take a symbolic vote here and there, but then quickly put their tail between their legs and scurry off to the corner sucking their thumbs and hoping the press doesn’t call them mean names.

As Yoda says, “Do. Or do not. There is no try.”
