Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit

An evening pause: Performed by Cinematic Pop Orchestra and Choir.

Hat tip Wayne DeVette.

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

Very nice version of an iconic rock song, nice find Wayne!

Okay… interesting but I have to say a bit weird.
Never imagined getting dressed up to go to Symphony Hall to hear Nirvana music.
Wish Cobain was alive to see this!
Back in the early 90’s “Nirvana” and “orchestra/choir” were two things one would never think of at the same time.
This song was from the album with the naked baby swimming after the dollar.
But it does illustrate the fact that Cobain’s music wasn’t just noise and screaming – there is real melody, he was a genuine talent.

    What’s next a version of “Polly” ?
    (“Polly wants a cracker
I think I should get off her first
I think she wants some water
To put out the blow torch”)

How about White Zombie’s “More Human than Human”?!!

Didn’t get it then, don’t get it now.

    Joe-
    Thank Mr. Z.
I might have suggested the original music-video version (500 millions plays on YouTube) but the words are impossible to hear.

    Mitch–
There is an excellent acoustic version of Polly, that was done on MTV-Unplugged. “More Human than Human,” yow– that’s now an earworm in my head for the rest of the day!

eddie– here’s a version you might enjoy:

The importance of orchestration. Done one way, it comes out just noise and screaming, done another way we hear the lyrics, melody, and talent.

It reminds me of the movie Music and Lyrics:

The Scorpions performing Rock You Like a Hurricane with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra is a good one too!

    C Cecil–
not one of my favorites, but I did look up that Scorpion’s tune and it’s done very well. Thank you!
(finally got “More Human Than Human” out of my head!)

    Edward-
Thanks for that Trailer, I might track that down and watch it.

tangentially– I was listening to some Linkin Park earlier, some of those tunes have outrageously yuuge Views on YouTube.
