Preserving strawberries the 18th century way

Please consider donating to Behind the Black, by giving either a one-time contribution or a regular subscription, as outlined in the tip jar to the right. Your support will allow me to continue covering science and culture as I have for the past twenty years, independent and free from any outside influence.

An evening pause: Something different tonight, from a cooking show that focuses on historical recipes from the American Revolutionary War era. Not only is this fascinating, it gives us a peek into life before refrigeration.

Hat tip Rocco.

Caveat– This only works if your strawberry’s are “clean & uncontaminated” to start.
Pick them fresh off your own property, immediately clean & prepare, and your success rate will approach 90%.
