The Byrds – Turn. Turn. Turn.

An evening pause: The words, except for the very last line (inserted by Pete Seeger), are from the book of Ecclesiastes.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

Read it all, especially the King James version. It is one of the most profound and beautiful poems ever written.

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

    Great song.

And a great group…they sounded great here.

Hey, Bob, not sure if you had seen this one, but I think its from the same concert. Byrds doing Mr. Tambourine Man, and then joined by Dylan. Kind of funny, as Dylan misses his cues, screws up his own words, and then Roger (Jim) McGuinn proceeds to drag him across the finish line. Good stuff!

    Thanks for that!

An excellent choice of song – thank you. I recently had an opportunity to spend some time with this book, and found this passage especially helpful.

  • Hi Dave,

Hope all is well with you.

I remember when I first heard this song back in the mid-1960s it compeled me to look up the full text in the Bible. I was astonished by the beauty and wisdom of the words.

But then, this is the evil Bible, which of course must be outlawed because it expresses conservative, old-fashioned ideals abut honor and justice. We can’t have that in the modern America!
