Readers! A November fund-raising drive!

It is unfortunately time for another November fund-raising campaign to support my work here at Behind the Black. I really dislike doing these, but 2025 is so far turning out to be a very poor year for donations and subscriptions, the worst since 2020. I very much need your support for this webpage to survive.

And I think I provide real value. Fifteen years ago I said SLS was garbage and should be cancelled. Almost a decade ago I said Orion was a lie and a bad idea. As early as 1998, long before almost anyone else, I predicted in my first book, Genesis: The Story of Apollo 8, that private enterprise and freedom would conquer the solar system, not government. Very early in the COVID panic and continuing throughout I noted that every policy put forth by the government (masks, social distancing, lockdowns, jab mandates) was wrong, misguided, and did more harm than good. In planetary science, while everyone else in the media still thinks Mars has no water, I have been reporting the real results from the orbiters now for more than five years, that Mars is in fact a planet largely covered with ice.

I could continue with numerous other examples. If you want to know what others will discover a decade hence, read what I write here at Behind the Black. And if you read my most recent book, Conscious Choice, you will find out what is going to happen in space in the next century.

This last claim might sound like hubris on my part, but I base it on my overall track record.

So please consider donating or subscribing to Behind the Black, either by giving a one-time contribution or a regular subscription. I could really use the support at this time. There are five ways of doing so:

1. Zelle: This is the only internet method that charges no fees. All you have to do is use the Zelle link at your internet bank and give my name and email address (zimmerman at nasw dot org). What you donate is what I get.

2. Patreon: Go to my website there and pick one of five monthly subscription amounts, or by making a one-time donation. Takes about a 10% cut.

3. A Paypal Donation or subscription, which takes about a 15% cut:

4. Donate by check. I get whatever you donate. Make the check payable to Robert Zimmerman and mail it to

Charges against pro-Hamas rioters have routinely been dropped nationwide

The instruction manual of the left
The instruction manual of the left

According to an excellent report today at the website Campus Reform, charges against more than 300 pro-Hamas rioters that illegally occupied and damaged campuses at eleven different universities nationwide have been dropped by prosecutors.

The list is discouraging, to put it mildly:

  • School of the Art Institute of Chicago: 80 criminal charges were dropped
  • University of Texas at Austin: 79 criminal charges were dropped
  • Indiana University: 56 criminal charges were dropped
  • Columbia University: 31 criminal charges have been dropped
  • California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt: 27 criminal charges have been dropped
  • University of Minnesota: 9 criminal charges have been dropped
  • University of New Hampshire: 8 criminal charges have been dropped
  • The City University of New York: 7 criminal charges have been dropped
  • Northwestern University: 4 criminal charges have been dropped

The reasons why prosecutors have dropped these charges are manifold. In some cases (such as in California, Illinois, and New York), the prosecutors were partisan Democrats who approved of the riots, and thus acted to protect the rioters by dropping the charges. In several cases however the prosecutors expressed extreme unhappiness with their own action, stating that they did so reluctantly because they did not think they could win in court.

Travis County Attorney Delia Garza, who opted not to charge most anti-Israel protesters at the University of Texas at Austin, said during a press conference in late June that the criminal trespass charge couldn’t be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, according to the Texas Tribune.

Garza also criticized leadership at the University of Texas at Austin for their handling of the protest. “The decisions that were made in response to these protests continue to show, as I’ve said before, the severe lack of leadership we expect from our leaders, as they continue to prioritize extreme government overreach over actual public safety,” Garza said.

Garza’s problem was two-fold. First, officials at the University of Texas at Austin were on the side of the rioters, and were not going to give her any support during any trial she might bring. Those same officials did everything possible to protect those rioters from arrest and prosecution, during the riots. This same phenomenon occurred at almost all these universities, even in very conservative states. The faculty and staff at these universities are all leftists who agree whole-heartedly with all of Hamas’ claims, and thus supported the riots on a fundamental level.

Similarly, in many of the locales where a trial would be brought (such as New York, Chicago, or California), the general population is generally in agreement with the protesters as well, and will act aggressively to find these rioters innocent. And if any are not, expect them to back down to peer pressure, much as many southerners did in the South during the Jim Crow era.

Second, it was very clear before, during, and after the riots that a great deal of money was being provided to support the actions of these protesters. Money was clearly provided by someone to pay for tents, signs, and equipment. Money also was apparently provided to pay some agitators, who when arrested were not local and appeared to have been flown in for protest purposes. After the arrests it was also obvious that someone was paying for extensive legal support, including lessons for the rioters on what to say after arrest and then providing them high-powered lawyers to fight any charges against them.

Faced with an uncorporative victim (the universities), high-powered legal attorneys willing and able to fight any charges endlessly, and a local population often in league with the rioters, it became impractical to prosecute these cases.

The Constitution dead, no matter what we do
The Constitution: Is there any way we can save it?

The daunting conclusion we must draw from this is that the left remains very organized and determined to maintain its ability to commit whatever violence it deems necessary without any fear of consequences. This is the same situation the Nazis managed to create for themselves in the 1930s. It is also the same situation the Democrats and its armed wing the KKK created for itself in the South after the Civil War.
They became immune from punishment, even as they rioted and persecuted both political opponents, innocent Jews, and innocent blacks.

Unless something changes soon, we face the same situation now in the United States. Either these very bad people will gain power and escalate their violence and lust for power to do the kinds of things the Nazis and the Democratic Party KKK did, or in reaction the rest of the country will rise up and impose martial law, abandoning our Constitution and the rule of law in a desperate attempt to restore law and order. This is what Romans attempted as their empire was failing, and it failed to work.

Both choices are bad ones. Both lead to tyranny, ignorance, and chaos. And I fear that is what we face now.

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The print edition can be purchased at Amazon or from any other book seller. If you want an autographed copy the price is $60 for the hardback and $45 for the paperback, plus $8 shipping for each. Go here for purchasing details. The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

DEMOCRATS: BILLIONS DEPOSITED INTO ILLEGALS BANK ACCOUNTS

It’s called irony! Get used to it if Kammy wins in November.

“The ONLY manner in which Kamala Harris and the Democrats can win in November is in the counting rooms around the country relying on the loaded up with fraudulent voter rolls and specially trained operatives, mail in voting and all the rest. IMO anyway. That and of course the Hollywood media and the corporate masters attempting to erase Kamala’s “prologue”.”

Wander about aimlessly on Jan. 6–get life.

    Pogroms against Jews? No biggie.

  • @Cotour

Yeap, Kamala will be 47. More legal voters will vote for Trump rather than Kamala but that will be corrected in the Democrat controlled back rooms in the swing states with what you describe.

Arizona, today, just went to Kamala with the 9th Circuit allowing illegal aliens to vote in November.

As a Texan, I believe that the Blue Counties (Harris -Houston, Travis – Austin, Bexar – San Antonio, and Dallas) with those fortifications to the election will turn Texas’ President and Senate ( Cruz -Allred) choices blue.

The Democrats are desperate for power and will use any means necessary to retain power. BTW, no one will have standing to contest the results. Welcome to The Banana Republic of North America

Occupy Wallstreet | Antifa | BLM | pro-Hamas | etc are not organic. They are part of the government. They are funded with the unlimited resources of the American taxpayer.

In 2020 when they took over the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle (CHAZ / CHOP), the government had prestaged 4,000 pound concrete Jersey barriers to block off streets and porta potties for them to use. That night everything was moved into place. It was a very detailed choreographed plan.

I remember the fear of normal citizens at work that Monday morning, not understanding the violent lawlessness that was not being stopped.

I am not particularly surprised. Just takes some time to play out and become evident how Justice™ is being worked. (Yeah, I think it is “a work”.) This is Dem’s concept of Equity, the chapter on equal application of Justice.

Over the span of US history, grievances by one group against another is solved by a contrary application: criminal behavior today is overlooked because of the cruelties visited upon ancestors by ancestors. That the perpetrators in the past where largely Democrats is probably why Democrats today are bending over backward to make up for it. But those victims, and the perpetrators, are mostly all dead now. The rest of us taking the punches have not earned it in any moral sense.

It’s all so psychological, isn’t it? And quite wrong too. Watch’em be re-elected anyway.

meanwhile they just arrested another peaceful J6er a few days ago for entering the Capitol for ten minutes

and they’re still using the phony Enron document destruction charge even after the Supreme Court told them to stop being ridiculous

and we have no functioning President

this isn’t even banana republic anymore, this is Late Roman

  • Either these very bad people will gain power and escalate their violence…
or in reaction the rest of the country will rise up and impose martial law…

There are other options. My bet is on vigilantism (spellcheck says no “e”). It will start small, but spread quickly. The datum behind my bet is the popularity of Try That in a Small Town.

This playbook is being used throughout Europe as well. Have you even heard that England is burning? Days of unrest, English citizens arrested for minor offenses while immigrants caught are released. All started with an immigrant boy stabbing young girls in a dance class.

“there were disturbances after hundreds of people gathered in the Bordesley Green area of the city following false reports that a far-right march had been planned there.”
“Palestinian flags were waved and anti-English Defence League chants were heard.
A group of youths later broke away from the gathering and attacked several vehicles and a pub”

Nearly 400 arrested after six days of violence
