wayne: I think the broadcast was 8 pm Central, but I’d have to dig up my copies of the transcripts and I don’t have the inclination right now. However, according to what I wrote in Genesis, at the start of the broadcast Borman says we’ve been circling the Moon for 16 hours. Since they were going to leave orbit at 12:10 am after spending 20 hours in lunar orbit, so that kind of confirms it as 8 pm Central when the broadcast began.

I was fortunate to witness the launch of Apollo 8 earlier that week, then we drove to Key-West to camp for Christmas. I distinctly recall watching some of this on our small B&W TV at the campground.

Edward: I find this hilarious. That black and white image was the one that Frank Borman took, and he oriented it with the horizon on the bottom. So essentially they got this image wrong too. :)
