Maybe, but it may end up putting blacks in the back of the bus. With the Ebony Alert, now the racists know which children they should look out for — only the Amber alerts. If they remained Amber Alerts, then everyone would be on the lookout.

Or it could merely show how many black children go missing. Imagine getting 141,000 Ebony alerts on your phone each year. That is almost 400 a day, 16 an hour, or one every four minutes. If they are more county specific then it would be fewer per hour, but it would still be a lot every day in the heavily populated areas.

Or maybe it makes us ignore any and every alert on our phones, or better yet: give us reason to keep our phones turned off most of the time.

But most likely, the same missing youngsters who don’t get an Amber Alert will not get an Ebony Alert, either.

““Data shows that Black and brown, our indigenous brothers and sisters, when they go missing there’s very rarely the type of media attention, let alone AMBER alerts and police resources that we see with our white counterparts,” state Sen. Steven Bradford, also a Democrat and creator of the legislation, told NBC News earlier this year.”

The problem is not that there isn’t a special alert for certain people, it is that the current system is not used for those certain people often enough to please Bradford. Making another system does not assure that it will be used any more than the current system is used. It only complicates things. An alert cannot go out until the color of the missing child’s skin is assessed, and at what shade does an Amber Alert turn Ebony? The solution is to have the current system used enough for Bradford’s satisfaction. Bradford is going down the road of good intentions, dragging along everyone else in the well known direction.

Once again, the Democratic Party is focusing on skin color, as though that is the most important attribute a person possesses. This makes the Democrats the racists, who may be the ones who could ignore the Ebony Alerts and favor the Amber Alerts.
