California is a bit late to the party. Not only has Oregon legalized marijuana before the Golden State (I have no problem with that), but as I noted on my blog, the Portland School Board recently voted to ban any material casting doubt on Anthropogenic Global Warming. I would think that statistically there are some registered Democrats with serious misgivings about these actions, and the only comfort at this point is that they are living in the world they helped create. Unfortunately, everyone else is, too.

What an outrage! This is in direct violation of the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 19: "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers."

But then again, even the state where the UN was founded (San Francisco) does not take the United Nations seriously.

Nor do they take the US Constitution seriously.

Ever since California's taxpayer revolt of 1978, Proposition 13, the state government has become more and more authoritarian, punishing We the People as much as they could get away with. Not only did they change how elections are held in order to virtually guarantee only leftists on almost every ballot, but now they move into silencing opposition voices.

If the supporters had a solid majority of CA voters / citizens behind them on the global warming religion, those supporters would not waste effort on this. This looks like their weakness much more than their strength. Small comfort, I know . . .

This underscores the critical nature of the replacement of Justice Scalia. Federal judges have overturned actions of the legislature and voters in California before, sometimes appropriately, sometimes through raw judicial activism. This bill, should it pass, cries out for a ruling that it violates the First Amendment and must be struck down. But if it goes as far as the US Supreme Court, the judicial temperament and integrity of the next Justice will be the determining factor. If that Justice is appointed by Hillary, will that signal the end of free speech as we know it?
