It is very saddening that the drill is still malfunctioning and that a lot of good science is being passed by because of the malfunction. But everything points to the probability that using the drill will eventually terminate Curiosity suddenly and permanently. ignoring that the drill exists will most likely result in several more years of slightly truncated information from the surface of another planet. If NASA gets bored with this probe, maybe they could outsource its operation to private enterprise? An institute of higher education perhaps?
