Your scenario is fine except you are totally missing the end goal of the law, and that is to further control the people and destroy the intent of the Constitution. The law was not intended to expand coverage but to further erode the individuals sense of personal responsibility so to further reinforce that the idea that government should be primary in an individuals life.

The whole thrust of the goings on in our country over the past 30 to 40 years has been focused on instituting that as the paradigm to follow by both party’s.

This pendulum has swung way too far!

They forgot that healthcare is a benefit not a right.
A benefit fought for and earned by the unions.
A benefit worked for and earned by the regular worker.
A benefit offered by employers to get and keep better workers.
A benefit that varied according to how much people wanted to pay for.

Those who didn’t have this benefit could always have fell back on and relied on Medicare/Medicaid.

The administration could have simply raised the Medicare/Medicaid tax and expanded the programs to cover more under insured citizens. But no. They wanted a whole new program, and in writing it they made HUGE mistakes.
They didn’t have to force changes to existing systems already fought for and working.
They could have just guaranteed the government would cover people with preexisting conditions.
