This story seems generated not by any actual event but by that very bad press release I discussed here.

I’ve been surveying the solar research webpages the last week and can find nothing that suggests the sun’s southern hemisphere has completed its flip. It might have, but if so, I can’t find any credible source that says so.

The closest that a Chinese ice breaker has gotten to them is 7 miles. Watch the Chinese as well as the Australians both get stuck there for the duration of the winter.
