mkent: Maybe so, but the article I linked to expressly noted that with this antenna missing Artemis will put a severe strain on the system, with communications reduced or delayed for those interplanetary missions.

There are other antennas at Goldstone that can be used for Artemis missions.

For something like 4 hours per day, whatever they want to communicate with will be below the horizon in both Spain and Australia. That’s why there are three sites at ~120 degree intervals in longitude.
