The PRC held off on slaughtering the Tiananmen  Square protestors until all the Western press which had been covering the demonstrations there had been expelled.  I am unaware of any extant footage of the actual massacre.

But personal video technology has come a long way in 30 years.  I think the PRC understands that if it slaughters people by the thousands again, the deed &lt;i&gt;will&lt;/i&gt; be caught on some sort of device - many of them, actually - and &lt;i&gt;will&lt;/i&gt; get out.  The images would also spread within China.  That probably worries Beijing more than the certainty of their dirty work being seen by foreigners.]]></description>
