Liechtenstein signs the Artemis Accords
The tiny nation of Liechtenstein in Europe yesterday became the 52nd nation to sign the Artemis Accords.
The full list of nations now part of this American space alliance: Angola, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Poland, Romania, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, the Ukraine, the United States and Uruguay.
There has been a flurry of new nations signing the accords since the November election of Trump. I suspect his coming encouraged these nations to sign, knowing the moribund leadership of Biden will soon be replaced with something more robust. It is also likely that these nations see a renewal of Trump’s original goals for the Artemis Accords, to create an international alliance, led by the United States, with the goal of overcoming the Outer Space Treaty’s limitations on private property.
I hope this turns out to be true. This alliance gives Trump a powerful lobby he can wield to force change.

Please consider supporting my work here at Behind the Black. Your support allows me the freedom and ability to analyze objectively the ongoing renaissance in space, as well as the cultural changes -- for good or ill -- that are happening across America. Fourteen years ago I wrote that SLS and Orion were a bad ideas, a waste of money, would be years behind schedule, and better replaced by commercial private enterprise. Only now does it appear that Washington might finally recognize this reality.
In 2020 when the world panicked over COVID I wrote that the panic was unnecessary, that the virus was apparently simply a variation of the flu, that masks were not simply pointless but if worn incorrectly were a health threat, that the lockdowns were a disaster and did nothing to stop the spread of COVID. Only in the past year have some of our so-called experts in the health field have begun to recognize these facts.
Your help allows me to do this kind of intelligent analysis. I take no advertising or sponsors, so my reporting isn't influenced by donations by established space or drug companies. Instead, I rely entirely on donations and subscriptions from my readers, which gives me the freedom to write what I think, unencumbered by outside influences.

The Artemis Accord represents a foreign policy opportunity far larger than currently obvious. The Accords are just an agreement on principles. But, when the Starship fleet becomes operational at scale (two to three years from now) all nations will come to realize that they will have the opportunity to purchase at least one Starship seat on a mission of lunar exploration. When many nations are able to afford to send their national
astronaut heroes to explore on behalf of their people and in their language. But such a large exploration phase will need coordination between the nations to ensure that all nations get the opportunity to have newsworthy missions. And then after that, they will have the opportunity to settle down and represent their people within an international base. This is where the United States can lead the world as we begin spreading humanity beyond Earth. And as off-Earth settlement begins, we have the opportunity to lead the nations to establish principles of liberty for those who settle down beyond Eartb.
DougSpace: Bingo! You are right on the mark.
The key to doing this right however is to have the right policies coming from the U.S., focused on property rights and establishing national law protecting individual rights at every colony established by nations participating in the Artemis Accords. The last four years were not a good example of that.
In other words, Americans have to pay better attention to whom they put in power, demanding they will actually act as servants to their citizens rather than power-hungry blowhards.
