Given that NASA’s notional plans for human expeditions to the Moon and Mars look, at this point, to be appreciably more “aspirational” than those of Mr. Musk, I think it is the latter that will prove most dispositive and consequential. And Mr. Musk seems to intend to pursue both destinations substantially in parallel. Due to its nearness, the Moon effort will be the faster of the two to advance.
