It’s position can easily be measured by radar or even GPS. The Russians did this to show that they are prepared to let blood. Not necessarily in space. They could’ve launched a nuclear weapon to the South Pacific or something, but this was a step below that in the escalation.

I think that NATO does best in allowing those Russians in the south eastern part of Ukraine have their independence and recognize Luhansk and Donetsk as independent states. Who cares?
