Just because he was mean and hated cats, I guess, and he saw it on his property. Amazingly, the cat lived (the bullet just hit “meat,” as the vet put it). Even more amazingly, my former ladyfriend submitted the cat’s medical bills to the county, just on a whim, thinking nothing would come of it — and the county paid them without any questions!
