years before the true private new space rocket, Falcon. Be greatful that ABMA answered with Explorer 1.

Falcon is a better rocket of course…but Ariane 4 and R-7 we’re both elegant.

R-7 and B-52…. two symbols of the Cold War that will outlive me.
