The fact is that middle East society is extremely influenced by its religion and that religious leaders.

Its so influenced by them that even the very western leaning and accepting leadership of the kingdom often has to bow to popular pressure or lose control all the way.

I am waiting for the day when ISIS(or some other terrorist group) openly moves into the kingdom and forces out the Saud family.
I can see it happening in the next ten years.

I would describe it as a tyrannical group of gangsters using the despotic laws of islamic oppression as an excuse to silence dissent. I suspect that when islamic fundamentalism threatens the personal health of the Saudi rulers that they will suddenly discover secularism.
