Today’s blacklisted American: Biden sign language interpreter blackballed for also translating for conservative outlets
They’re coming for you next: In a news article soon after Biden became president, the Washington Post demanded that a sign language interpreter be blacklisted from working in the Biden administration simply because she previously translated for conservative and pro-Trump organizations.
From the Post’s article,
[The interpreter] who appeared in the White House coronavirus briefing on Monday beside press secretary Jen Psaki was identified by deaf and hard-of-hearing advocates and Time Magazine, fueling questions about the White House’s vetting process and what could have happened if [she] misinterpreted Biden officials or inserted her own bias. No one has publicly disputed her interpretation, but many questioned why the White House would legitimize her by giving [her] the national platform.
…More than 3,500 people have signed a petition to have [the interpreter] banned from interpreting for the White House. Some indicated they intended to report her.
That petition now has 9,000 signatures, and it appears that the Biden administration is now blackballing her, as she has not been given any work by them since the Washington Post story was published. It also appears that she has since been harassed and slandered online as well.
I have removed the interpreter’s name because I do not wish to help these storm-troopers in their two-minute hate campaign.

I struggle to believe that there is any device that can deliver video that, somehow, does not have closed captioning. In this day and age, why have a hand sign interpreter unless it is for virtue signalling?

It is possible the ASL interpreters are there for folks who understand ASL, but not English. I would think that population would be rather small (but maybe it isn’t?), and the ‘virtue-signaling’ angle is likely the thinking.
Historically (which is a relative term) real-time sign language interpretation was only utilized for ‘official’ pronouncements. It’s hard to do in a fast paced back-n-forth environment.

Facebook, Google, Twitter, Amazon and the rest need to be reinstructed as to the necessary balance between freedom and free speech and the exercise of power and respect for sovereign country’s wishes and human Rights and the boundaries they must operate between.
And on the other end of this equation are the likes of Communist China who embraces censorship and control and have enlisted these now international corporate tech citizens of the world who bow to their demands of censorship and worse.
Who in the end knows best? In general the people over who these elite power brokers on both sides of the equation struggle to dominate. And the only solution? The tenets of the Constitution and clearing government of those, mostly on the Left who see themselves in their power as the rightful owners of who gets and who does not get their freedom.
