We are witnessing, in real time, the unfolding of fascism in this country. I am a professional historian, and I don’t use that phrase lightly. It is the same thing that took place in Europe many decades ago, where freedom of expression was at first shouted down, and then stoned and beaten and later, shot, down. And now it happens on camera, and Americans . . . yawn.

To me, it is proof we have already lost the Republic. Now the question is only this: What will take its place?

This was one of the ugliest events in modern American history, certainly since Democrats sicked police dogs on protesters down South 50 years ago. It received scant attention from the media.

It happened in more than one city too. I wouldn’t be surprised if it continues to happen and people actually get killed rather than just beat up.

From the article: “Liccardo, a backer of Hillary Clinton, also was accused of ordering officers to stand down as Trump supporters were being attacked, a claim Police Chief Eddie Garcia has called ‘absurd.'”

Well, somebody coordinated the incident. If Chief Garcia is saying that it wasn’t Mayor Liccardo, then he must think that it was somebody else. Could it be Garcia, himself?

From the article: “‘I have a lot of control over my officers, but my officers do not know the meaning of the term stand down,’ Garcia said at the time. ‘They would not follow that order nor would I ever expect them to.'”

Interesting that he thinks that his officers would be so insubordinate. The reason the order stand down exists is that sometimes it is needed. Garcia did not say that under the circumstances his officers would not be expected to let fellow citizens be mauled by rioters, he said that his officers would disobey orders under any circumstances — which includes circumstances of the officers themselves getting emotional and out of control and mauling citizens. That makes those officers much more dangerous than we had previously believed.
