Just for fun I researched the land bird population of the US. I wasn’t able to find any current data, but I did find a database from 2004 here: http://rmbo.org/pif_db/laped/about.aspx (in Excel). The database estimates the population of over 450 species in North America. The estimated total at the time was about 5 billion birds. ‘Extremely implausible’ doesn’t do justice to the claim that feral cats kill upwards of 20% of the total bird population annually.
