Even simple and Juvenal. One of the funniest bits I’ve ever seen was Benny Hill simply trying to sit down in a leather chair and looking embarrassed as it made “noises.” I met Jonathan Winters when I first started in radio. He told some of the filthiest jokes I’ve ever heard. My sides hurt for a week. The thing is this all good natured stuff. The bitter topical screeds which are held out as humor these days just bore me.

Do you recall the tv show “Fridays?” (“live, from the LA basin…”) Aired on ABC Friday night (1980-ish) and was an attempt to do battle with SNL. Very funny show, but only lasted 1-2 seasons.
