The shuttles were so much more economical, capable, and flexible, then anything done before, or proposed to follow; Something like it must be fielded to support and real commercial activities or development in space.

They were the first real step to changing space from a field for international posturing, to a significant economic sphere. A dream were now abandoning, but not I’m sure forever.
