A slightly shorter version of the above:

Washington is not the "leadership" of this nation. You are. In your neighborhood, in you village, in your town, in your county, in your state, and in you nation; in your job; in your business, in your children's schools, in your church; in your sports league, wherever you are--you are the leadership. The nation rises as we all, in our own individual ways, exercise leadership, doing what we can, where we are, with what we have, and it falls when we try to delegate the task.

You know, concerning the phrase "our leadership", there is a certain natural human thing going on behind that phrase, and I may be about to quibble to much, but the fact of the matter is that politicians are not "our leadership", they are "our elected government officials". This is a self-governing Republic, the citizen is the equal of a President at some level, and especially in business matters, the attitude should be to be your own leadership. We do not have kings, we do not have nobles, and we owe them no great deference. Think like it, talk like it.

They in Washington do not "lead". They make and administer laws, sometimes well, and sometimes not well--but that is about it, and should be about it. I think part of the problem we have in America is that we are reintroducing a hierarchical society that says we have a 'leadership" in all things, and that it is usually based in Washington, and that its acquiescence must be gained for all things. Not so.

When we look to others for "leadership" instead of just doing it ourselves, we are already halfway defeated.
