SpaceX is not the salvation for the future of space new space fans think. Their can do spirit is meshed with a lack of caution or detailed understanding – leading to efforts that don’t seem to leed to their goals. And they lack the resources and discipline to be a long term player, much less a innovator.

NASA is a agency backed into a civil service bureaucratic nightmare, where their driven to set their highest priority to generate pork (jobs) in favored districts, and avoid looking bad in the press. Layers of “oversight” sounds good in the press regardless of the higher costs and higher likelihood of accidents and failures it drives.

Nieather is capable of opening space “for the rest of us”.
