North Korea’s space goal: Hit the Moon in five years
The competition heats up? According to one North Korean official, that country’s goal in space is to put a spacecraft on the Moon sometime in the next five years.
I actually believe this official. Their dear leader has demanded this, and they are sincerely trying to do it. Since they have had enormous trouble simply launching short range ballistic missiles, I have serious doubts they will make it happen, at least within five years.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

NOT doing what the dear leader wants can be VERY hazardous to your health. And the North Koreans suffer from needed resources not getting to them.
I was thinking the same thing Willi. Kind of takes the charm out of being a rocket scientist.
Mayby they buy a Lunar X-Prize projekt. Kim is good att hole-in-ones so he can do the orbital calculations himself.

wayne,
Kim probably routinely aces the windmill hole.
I wonder if this will make space exploration look even more crazy in peoples minds. Or if it inspires other government leaders to get a space program themselves. North Korea is one of the smallest and poorest countries in the world, if they can do it, anyone can.
It’s a spectacular plan they have, they will steel the US moon flags:

And just a few years ago they landed the first man ever on the Moon:

North Korea and the US has alot in common in the news media business.
