VA reinstates worker who committed armed robbery
Our government at work: A VA worker has been reinstated with back pay after being fired for participating in an armed robbery.
It is worse than you think. The reason her union won her case was because the VA hadn’t fired other workers who had broken the law, so thus it was unfair to fire her as well.
A Department of Veterans Affairs employee in Puerto Rico was fired after being arrested for armed robbery, but her union quickly got her reinstated — despite a guilty plea — by pointing out that management’s labor relations negotiator is a registered sex offender, and the hospital’s director was once arrested and found with painkiller drugs…
Employees said the union demanded her job back and pointed out that Tito Santiago Martinez, the management-side labor relations specialist in Puerto Rico, who is in charge of dealing with the union and employee discipline, is a convicted sex offender. Martinez reportedly disclosed his conviction to the hospital and VA hired him anyway, reasoning that “there’s no children in [the hospital], so they figure I could not harm anyone here.”
The union’s position — that another employee committed a crime and got away with it, so this one should, too — has been upheld by the highest civil service rules arbiters, and has created a vicious Catch-22 where the department’s prior indefensible inaction against bad employees has handcuffed it from taking action now against other scofflaws.
And the intellectual elites in Washington wonder why people are angry and want to throw the bums out. In fact, that they remain clueless about this anger and continue to do nothing about this kind of obscene corruption in the government departments that they control is only more reason to throw them out. Maybe we should even consider bringing back that old American custom: to tar and feather them and ride them out of town on a rail.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

It’s not clear from the article who had the authority to reinstate her. Was it a judge? An official with the Labor Relations Board? Management giving in?
We can only stop this if we can identify who is making the poor decisions, or in what ways their hands are tied (legislation, etc.) that makes them make such decisions.
FDR didn’t want government unions; this can be exhibit A on why he was right.
It must be nice to be a member of the protected class.
Garry- “Administrative law Judge and/or Civil service arbitrator’s” who are immune from removal for doing stupid stuff.
Quote from my lawyer bud on this exact case: (given that he has not read the actual brief’s or decision issued.) “That’s the VA, the VA union and an administrative judge/arbitrator cognizant of who appointed him. I don’t see the logic holding up in regular court, but those are too clogged with drug ‘crimes’ to handle real cases any more.”
As Mr. Z. noted,
The VA set the precedent by allowing the other law-breakers to keep their jobs. It’s blatantly foolish but not “illegal” under specialized civil-service rules & regulations.
In fact, if they refused to have considered “past disciplinary actions of the VA,” they would violating their own rules/regulations/collective-bargain-agreements.
Yeah, even FDR (King of the administrative State) and JFK knew public-sector unions were inherently anti-American.
Ah, the joys of moral relativism. No standards, no responsibility, and no accountability. It’s a Worker’s (and children’s) Paradise!
Yes, another example of children making believe that they are adults, and the adults who oversee their “safety” promote this stupid and dangerous “reality”.

This I think we can agree is a direct result of “political correctness” and the liberal oriented educational system that it fosters over the long run.
Things like this are what we really need to be afraid of because it represents a glimps into the rotten intellectual foundation and fantasamogorical foundation that these young people lives are built upon.
Be afraid, be very afraid.
Cotour: (hey!)
On board with thought! (100%)
“..fantasamogorical..” Good word.
(Don’t often see that used outside of comics/imaginative-art!)
-This VA stuff is just a microcosm of the vast Administrative State apparatchik at work. Whatever weasel can master the fine-print, rules us all.
-The Emory University stuff, as well. This is what happens (in part) when you drug a whole generation with amphetamines & pass out participation awards for just showing up. (we handed it to them, on a silver-platter.)
(already afraid…very afraid!)
This is also associated with / an extension of the open ended welfare state of dependency philosophy that is our own perverted version of “helping”. From governments point of view the more dependency that can legally be created is a GOOD thing. Creating the legal obligation is the key to continuously growing government and growing government, its government for governments sake. This is the long term goal / result of the liberal philosophy that creates this feeling “safe” on campus and not interpreting as just a form of free speech. Which indicates that the overlords are not at all interested in free speech but in “correct speech” according to them.
Sick, sick, sick, it is exploitive, an insult to the freedom of the individual, it creates dependency much like a drug pusher looks to create a drug user in order to widen their market. Exploitive and parasitic and can only kill the host in the long run.
Waynes World, excellent!
