Pushback: Conservative Hispanic student defeats effort to blacklist her
Gallegos is also participating in Wichita State’s
first Collegiate Leadership Competition
Don’t comply: Despite being Hispanic, Olivia Gallegos — a student at Wichita State University and an elected member of its student government — was accused of being a white supremacist and threatened with removal because she nominated a conservative woman for recognition by the school’s Diversity, Empowerment and Inclusion Committee.
It seems that committee wanted nothing to do with diversity of thought, even if it empowered a woman.
“Basically by highlighting a conservative, I was [called] a white supremacist and [accused of] giving a platform to white supremacy,” she said. “I just laughed, because I’m Hispanic.”
But the effort to force Gallegos to resign never came to fruition. “I had to sit through a 2.5-hour senate review board where they ultimately determined, ‘You did nothing wrong. But we’d like you to meet with diversity and inclusion to learn how to respond to things like this, and use this as a learning experience,’” Gallegos said.
She refused.
Not only that, when she was denied nomination for re-election to her student government position, she ran a write-in campaign and won anyway.
Gallegos also was central in getting a chapter of the conservative organization Turning Point USA recognized by the college. Despite stalling efforts, name-calling, and then a denial of recognition by the student government which forced a lawsuit, the chapter eventually won its case and was formally recognized.
More important, it was the student government’s supreme court, not the outside courts, that ruled in favor of Turning Point USA.
The supreme court for Wichita State’s student government approved the Turning Point USA group, overruling the objections of student senators. The decision allows the free-market student group to have official status at the university starting immediately.
The majority opinion said the Student Senate violated the federal Constitution, the Student Government Association Constitution and the Student Bill of Rights by denying the group official status.
The denial had to be overturned because it uses “viewpoint discrimination as the basis for denying an organization official … status,” the October 27 ruling said.
Gallegos’ actions here prove that Americans can still win a victory for freedom and free speech. All it takes is undaunted courage and a refusal to comply with the intolerant demands of the leftist bullies who aim to control all discourse. By never apologizing and refusing to comply with the unreasonable demands of the blacklisters, Gallegos and her cohorts in that Turning Point USA chapter were able stiffen the spine of many other students, who might have run and hid otherwise. The result was a write-in election victory and a court victory that came from the student body, not higher authorities.
At the same time, we must also applaud the administration at Wichita State. It would have no part in the effort by a few leftist radicals on campus to make blacklisting the only method of debate allowed. When these goons tried to get the administration to blackball Gallegos for not bowing to their will, the administration essentially told them to go jump in a lake, thus ending the witch hunt very quickly.
If I was a high school student or the parent of one, this story recommends Wichita State highly as a worthwhile college to attend.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Its coming.
Little by little.
The question however remains: Will it be in time? The Democrat party machine understands what is coming down the road specifically for them. How far will they go to prevent that? You see it now in all of the measures they are taking to manipulate districts and suppress any investigations into election fraud.
Remember, its: “By any means necessary”. And I add to that up to and including murder.
Do not discount the potential of your enemy when their very existence hangs in the balance.

As long as you can compete in the victimhood olympics.
Would a white male have been so successful? I’d say likely not.
Nice! Always good to hear about the victories, especially when it’s led from the ranks.
If people don’t see the REAL objective of D I E then they are as big of an idiot as the D I E people! Good for the young lady – hope she has a very successful career and has the opportunity to deny employment to MANY of the D I E idiots – not because of them BEING a D I E I – but because of their LACK OF ABILITIES!
