Seven ways Star Trek changed the world.

  • I wrote a post a while back on how Star Trek invented the future (our present), and there was a TV show hosted by William Shatner some years ago with the same premise. For those of us who were children in the late ’60’s/early ’70’s, the combination of Star Trek and the Moon landings was a heady mix. I recall watching science documentaries in the ’80’s and ’90’s, and almost without exception, if an engineer or scientist was asked what got them interested in their field, they’d answer “Star Trek”. That TV show was certainly influential in my decision to go into engineering. We could use a lot more of Gene Roddenberry’s vision, but what we’re getting is closer to George Lucas’ version.
