The Obama administration is trying to close memorials that in previous shutdowns were never closed.

Hope and change? The Obama administration is trying to close memorials that in previous shutdowns were never closed.

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

In time I believe that the public will perceive that the president is being vindictive and in flexible due to the offers of the Republicans to fund things incrementally and his un willingness to work things out through negotiations. When you pile on top of that the arbitrary exemptions he has granted, apparently illegally as it relates to the law itself, and his un willingness to grant an extension to individuals as he has granted to his cronies, this is what will burry him.

This is of course if the Republicans stand strong, which if recent history is any indication may not be likely due to the entrenched old guard being Democrat light. If they relent then they must be removed in the coming elections. Ted Cruz is now the leader of the Republican party and the old bulls do not like that, he makes them appear as what they are. Liberal Republicans!!

The only thing president Obama is trying to shut down is the United States of America, he could give a care less of the government shutdown as all essential employees are still at work.

  • R. Cotour

Oh no, he cares. This is a game of perception strategy right now and the president, IMO, in time will be seen as an obstructionist and vindictive. I offer as evidence this story about leaked emails between Bohner and Reid conspiring to exempt Congress and the Senate from the burdens of Obamacare. The leaks of course were from Harry Reid’s office attempting to shape Bohners image as a self interested elite. Unfortunately for Reid, Bohner is no longer the leader of the Republican party, Ted Cruz is. And Cruz is golden at the moment, his position is based in Constitutional concepts and Reid and the president are OK with creating an elite set of Americans. I say if the Republicans hold tight they win. This is for all the marbles.

“The leaks, which are a major taboo in Washington, show Boehner (R-Ohio) worked behind the scenes earlier this year to address confusion over a provision in the Affordable Care Act that would force members of Congress and their aides into the exchanges. In fact, if one were to go by the leaks, which were first published by Politico, it appears that the offices of Boehner and Reid regularly coordinated to exempt Congress from the health care law.”

Leaking the negotiations makes you wonder if the Democrats are at all interested in ending the shutdown and passing a budget.

  • R. Cotour

Those negotiations between Reid and Bohner are totally separate from the shut down. The shut down is about the line that Constitutionally based, Conservative minded Republicans will not go, funding Obamacare. Its simple, if they vote for the funding of Obamacare then they are saying that they support it, and they can not do that. Rhinos can do it, but true Constitutional Conservatives can never support such a thing.

Here is an example of how the government now owns you and I.

A man who attempted to sign up for Obamacare online was told that a fine of over $4,000 dollars a year for refusing to take out mandatory health insurance could be taken directly from his bank account, and that his drivers license would be suspended and a federal tax lien placed against his home, according to an entry on the HealthCare.gov Facebook page.

Image: Obama signs the Affordable Care Act.

If true, the implementation of Obamacare is going to be a whole lot more draconian than Americans have been led to believe.

    Will Sheehan claims that when he tried to sign up for Obamacare and then register to opt out, he received an ominous warning. Sheehan’s full Facebook post reads;

“I actually made it through this morning at 8:00 A.M. I have a preexisting condition (Type 1 Diabetes) and my income base was 45K-55K annually I chose tier 2 “Silver Plan” and my monthly premiums came out to $597.00 with $13,988 yearly deductible!!! There is NO POSSIBLE way that I can afford this so I “opt-out” and chose to continue along with no insurance.

I received an email tonight at 5:00 P.M. informing me that my fine would be $4,037 and could be attached to my yearly income tax return. Then you make it to the “REPERCUSSIONS PORTION” for “non-payment” of yearly fine. First, your drivers license will be suspended until paid, and if you go 24 consecutive months with “Non-Payment” and you happen to be a home owner, you will have a federal tax lien placed on your home. You can agree to give your bank information so that they can easy “Automatically withdraw” your “penalties” weekly, bi-weekly or monthly! This by no means is “Free” or even “Affordable.”

    Geez!

With deals like that, who needs con men? I sure hope that Sheehan is saving the promised “$2,500” per year.

At least they have the easy “lay-away” penalty plan, an easy $336 sucked out of his checking account every month. It seems that they are well prepared for many Americans to scoff at Obama and his law. I recommend that Sheehan keep his checking account flush with cash — there’s no telling what happens if they don’t get the full amount on time. It could be that he could tell us how ObamaCare works in prison.

Ain’t it nice how our government treats us? Comrade Sheehan, you are a scofflaw now.

  • John M. Egan

    I concur.

  • Pzatchok

I do not believe the feds can touch your drivers license.

Those are totally controlled by each state and each state long ago came up with a reciprocity agreement with all the other states.

The feds have nothing to do with a drivers license.

  • joe

Pzatchok, unless it is a CDL type license, at which point it is a national drivers license, if the guy is a truck driver, he is s o l.
