The TSA screeners at Newark Airport allowed a federal agent with a fake bomb to pass through security.

Does this make you feel safer? The TSA screeners at Newark Airport allowed a federal agent with a fake bomb to pass through security.

This covert test of security only proves once again how pointless the whole TSA charade is. Get rid of it. If we simply let the pilots and passengers be armed so they can defend themselves, which was the way we did things until the early 1960s, the chances of a repeat of 9/11 will be considerably less, and we would all have considerably more freedom.

Which is what this country is supposed to stand for, y’know.

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

The 9-11 scenario is old news and is unlikely to be repeated any time soon, passengers are very pro active in regards to out of control passengers now. The fortified cabin door is probably the most effective deterrent and it should have been standard equipment along with armed pilots as soon as someone first hijacked a plane.

I think the most effective procedure for the pilot upon discovering a situation that gets out of control would be to hope most people are buckled in and put the plane into a power dive or extreme banking turn. Gravity is a strong deterrent when employed liberally.

Until the terrorist just simply panics and touches off the bomb early instead of waiting for the ransom at the next airport.

Or the plane gets broken in the stupid stunt and then crashes. All because some drunk guy yells he’s going to kill everyone with his toothpick.

Your first idea is the best. Just arm the pilots and armor the door. Train the crew to handle things the best they can.
And hope the passengers keep calm and or fight back as soon as possible. Which they seem to be doing quite well now. At least American passengers are not taking any crap from anyone on US flights. Several dead passengers who got out of hand can attest to that.

    As to the fake bomb.

    Think of it this way.
TSA agents are first civilians. Just look at them the next time you go to an airport. These are the very people who couldn’t or wouldn’t get into the military. They are also the very same people who would never make it into the police department, or a prison or an armored car company.
They are same under educated people who couldn’t get into the corporate world. And we know how slow a few of them are.
This is the last place that would hire them. And they are paying them as little as possible with a few benefits as they can get away with. And for this great compensation they are being asked to be the first person to take a bullet or be blown up by a bomb if a terrorist is trying to get on a plane.
Its no wonder they don’t want to be the guy to find the bomb, they would be the first to get killed. Do you want to be the next guy in line when they yell “BOOMMBBB!!!”. Heck no.

They are not even trained to the same standards as a normal police officer. If they were they would have at least as much authority as a city cop. They do not even have the authority to make an arrest. That are only allowed to detain someone until a local cop gets there.

They need to be be exmilitary. People already trained and dedicated to give their lives for the people. Then they need extra training in explosives/bomb identification. And they need reminded every day that this job is NOT just a job. As soon as they think its just a job someone jets lazy.

A powered dive or an extreme banking turn is well, well within a modern aircrafts performance tolerances, the only likely things to break are people not buckled into their seats. A high jackers worst enemy would be for the pilot to create a zero gravity situation and then an extreme gravity situation. Have you ever watched videos of the NASA zero gravity training plane the “vomit comet”?
    It does it every day.

This scenario makes sense to me but I have never heard of a pilot doing so, are there any commercial pilots that could comment on it?
