The Washington swamp suddenly discovers that Russia has anti-satellite capabilities

The fake kerfuffle in the past few days about a so-called new “serious national security threat” from Russia’s space capabilities is simply the Washington swamp suddenly discovering capabilities that Russia has had for decades and has been working to improve repeatedly, discovered suddenly and pushed in our state-run press (the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Guardian, NBC, the Associated Press, ) to help that swamp lobby for passage of the Senate foreign aid bill, that spends $90 billion for the military and for the Ukraine, Taiwan, and Israel.

The key facts are highlighted below in this quote from the Washington Post propaganda piece about this story:

Exactly what the new Russia weapon is remains unclear, but the system is a “serious national security threat,” in the words of U.S. Rep. Michael R. Turner (R-Ohio), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. “I am requesting that President Biden declassify all information relating to this threat so that Congress, the Administration, and our allies can openly discuss the actions necessary to respond to this threat,” Turner wrote in a statement Wednesday.

In his briefing to reporters Thursday, [White House spokesman John] Kirby would say only that the system is “an antisatellite capability that Russia is developing.” [emphasis mine]

My heart be still. Lordy, the Russians are developing an anti-sat capability! Will wonders never cease.

This is not news. There is nothing here that we haven’t known about the Russian anti-satellite efforts now for decades. Turner and the White House are simply pushing this story now to create a crisis and panic to force the House to approve the Senate bill, even though there is great opposition to it. That opposition sees the bill has spending billions to protect other countries, while doing nothing to protect our own.

Sadly, we are ill-served by our modern press in this manner, which is all-in on this propaganda.

Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

Imagine all we could accomplish if we had a government that would actually allow America to be America, rather than work to support the Left and the phony Republicans of the Establishment GOP.

I reread Red Storm Rising from 1987 recently, and it features key plot points involving Soviet ASAT capabilities at that time, nearly 40 years ago.

Yes this is very old news and the kind of pathetic scare-mongering I’m absolutely sick of. 40 years ago when most* of this country’s civil servants were patriots and were much more dispassionate and less political, they didn’t try to drum up panic over “old news” capabilities like this. That they do now for purely manipulative political reasons shows just how corrupt and fallen this country has become.

*- ok I’m being a bit pollyanna but you get the point

  • F:

If that were allowed America would dominate the entire planet and that is just not “Equitable”.

America structured by the Constitution and operating within some reasonable Capitalist parameters an unstoppable and a monster.

Now who’s monster do you want to straddle the world?

    America?

    The CCP Chines?

    Russia?

    Choose one.

And our uni party now radical leftist government chooses Not America.

    Cotour,

Our SYSTEM established by the Founders and Framers is a wonderful one, properly designed to further the interests of the nation and its citizens.

The fact that we no longer live by that system is a historic tragedy.

  • Totally and entirely agree.

Politics is the dirtiest filthiest most perverted and corrupt activity that human beings participate in.

As a note: I am right now listening to the Fani Willi$ / boyfriend pro$ecutor court proceedings right now. Very interesting and an example of all of the protections provided for anyone accused that the Constitution provides.

The Constitution at this level lives!

I’m scared, maybe we should send another $90 bil to Ukraine. Would that help me be less scared?

Also, I wouldn’t want to be a satellite during WWIII.

Lets talk about the real world and the accomplishments of the Democrat party machine and the RION’s in our government.

A customer just came in, a hard-working Puerto Rican American, his young son was viciously and randomly attacked, with a knife, by a Venezuelan gang member.

Sliced him up and he almost died, showed me the pictures.

Very disturbing, in the hospital for the entire last week.

I asked him what is he going to do about it?

He answered without hesitation: Vote for Trump!

This is what is really going on.

This interview lays out how we got where we are and who pushed for absolute central control. It ties up what has seemed to be many unrelated events such as Russia Gate, vaccine propaganda/censorship and the control of elections. Information control cuts across party lines and should scare all of us, especially knowing how long this has been going on and how pervasive it is. It started before the intelligence agencies provided seed money for Google.,

When the discussion of ASAT technology comes up, I am think of when they took out Kosmos 1408 in an ASAT test in 2021.

There was much talk about the Kessler effect at the time. The international community made some noise about it, but then it was all quickly forgotten.

My question is, in light of historical Russian tactics, do they really view that as a bad thing?
Or do they view it as a way to “level the playing field”? Do they see taking such a step as a means to accomplishing short term military goals, or would it be just a first step to wider conflict.
Does Putin believe that his Army and Navy is getting their collective butts handed to them because of the tech advantage the other side has? Is he willing to forgo that tech to return to 1950’s style conflict (pro-orbital asset era), because he think he can win there?

These are mostly rhetorical questions, but ones that I have considered over the years.
I am cynical, usually consider the worst.

Deep Black is a book one of my superiors suggested I read some time ago. He couldn’t tell me what but we made something on some device in the book. This was the days when the KH-11 (look like the Hubble, huh) was rumored or somewhat known to exist.

I have this book in paperback somewhere. I wanted to quote from it.

As I remember the author, William E Burrows, makes the statement back in 1987-88 that to harm a satellite would be tantamount to an act of war. — I guess that has passed.

Every orbital nation has this very same capability. At least in some crude way. The better the tech the more accurate and specific the weapon gets.

I can not see why we could not launch a few chemical lasers up there and use that tech. Or even use more modern digital lasers. With no air diffraction the beams would travel forever with very little degradation. A range of a thousand miles. Aiming could be a problem at those distances.

How about the simple shotgun effect? Get close and shoot a bunch of pellets at it. A simple recoilless rifle system.
