Chevrolet – A Holiday to Remember
An evening pause: Yes, I know it is a commercial, but it is right for the season. And it reminds us of the never-ending human desire — not often possible — to always believe all things can be made better. Such a belief enriches us. We should never lose it, no matter how bad things become.
Hat tip Mike Nelson.
Readers!
Please consider supporting my work here at Behind the Black. Your support allows me the freedom and ability to analyze objectively the ongoing renaissance in space, as well as the cultural changes -- for good or ill -- that are happening across America. Fourteen years ago I wrote that SLS and Orion were a bad ideas, a waste of money, would be years behind schedule, and better replaced by commercial private enterprise. Only now does it appear that Washington might finally recognize this reality.
In 2020 when the world panicked over COVID I wrote that the panic was unnecessary, that the virus was apparently simply a variation of the flu, that masks were not simply pointless but if worn incorrectly were a health threat, that the lockdowns were a disaster and did nothing to stop the spread of COVID. Only in the past year have some of our so-called experts in the health field have begun to recognize these facts.
Your help allows me to do this kind of intelligent analysis. I take no advertising or sponsors, so my reporting isn't influenced by donations by established space or drug companies. Instead, I rely entirely on donations and subscriptions from my readers, which gives me the freedom to write what I think, unencumbered by outside influences.
You can support me either by giving a one-time contribution or a regular subscription. There are four ways of doing so:
1. Zelle: This is the only internet method that charges no fees. All you have to do is use the Zelle link at your internet bank and give my name and email address (zimmerman at nasw dot org). What you donate is what I get.
2. Patreon: Go to my website there and pick one of five monthly subscription amounts, or by making a one-time donation.
3. A Paypal Donation or subscription:
4. Donate by check, payable to Robert Zimmerman and mailed to

Wow!
That is a wonderful Christmas video from Chevrolet!
Thank you, Bob, for posting it, and for all that you do here.
Merry Christmas!
Mike Nelson-
excellent selection!

That is . . . fantastic.
I could not easily find budget information for the commercial, but I would wager that on a dollar-for-dollar basis, Chevrolet made one of the best movies of the year. Also, one with some of the fewest product placements.
Of the domestic brands, I’m a Ford guy, but . . .Like A Rock.

The story behind the design of the 1959 Chevrolet Impala is shown, with dramatized moments in the design and modeling process by the design staff of the new General Motors Technical Center at Warren, Michigan.
Whoops…..
I neglected to mention, for the film “American Look,” they don’t mention Chevrolet’s until Part 3.
All of which, and more, are available at Archive (dot) org, just search “Jam Handy + Chevrolet.”
Cynicism ahoy!
Excellent video, but I couldn’t help but see some of The Message make an appearance. A quick reference to climate change, which took me out of the zone, and, on reflection, the ‘men are useless’ message, with modern grandpa powerless to do anything but stay in the kitchen and even past grandpa unwilling to make a move on his future wife.
Are these fatal flaws? Nope. And without the wider context of Today they wouldn’t be worthy of comment. Alas, it is Today, and so they are. I don’t even pretend to know if it’s intentional signaling or if it’s just a riff on the _zeitgeist._
Boobah: I noticed how only the women were featured. However, on its own this is a pleasant short that’s great for the Christmas season.
Check out the Chevrolet holiday advert from 2022, it has a definite bent.
