Khatia Buniatishvili – Beethoven’s Concerto No. 1 in C Major, Rondo
An evening pause: Performed live 2015, accompanied by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zubin Mehta.
Hat tip Judd Clark.
On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.
The print edition can be purchased at Amazon. from any other book seller, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit.
The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.
The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.
"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

Surprisingly, although far from restrained, this is not Buniatishvili at her most flamboyant, look here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U-IXWaapx4
Gershwin’s Rhapsody In Blue
Orchestre National de Lyon
Leonard Slatkin (Conductor)
Khatia Buniatishvili (Piano)
February 11, 2017
It’s almost eighteen minutes, but well worth it.
Notice, in both pieces, at the end she first thanks and congratulates the conductor, then thanks and applauds the orchestra, and then takes her bows.
i’m continually amazed that human minds can conceive of music like this and that living humans can play it.
Wow! Thanks!
Heh — At 9:20, she does the “Musk Salute,” thing. Once seen, it’s seen everywhere.
Apart from impeccable musicianship and excellent on-stage manners it is also noteworthy that Buniatashvili appears to play all of her performances without a score before her. So to the borderline supernatural ability to play such music, she also has the even more borderline supernatural ability to do so from memory.
It is also worth noting that the woman is, physically, a goddess – one of the most beautiful women in contemporary art music.
