Genesis cover

On Christmas Eve 1968 three Americans became the first humans to visit another world. What they did to celebrate was unexpected and profound, and will be remembered throughout all human history. Genesis: the Story of Apollo 8, Robert Zimmerman's classic history of humanity's first journey to another world, tells that story, and it is now available as both an ebook and an audiobook, both with a foreword by Valerie Anders and a new introduction by Robert Zimmerman.

The print edition can be purchased at Amazon. from any other book seller, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. The ebook is available everywhere for $5.99 (before discount) at amazon, or direct from my ebook publisher, ebookit. If you buy it from ebookit you don't support the big tech companies and the author gets a bigger cut much sooner.

The audiobook is also available at all these vendors, and is also free with a 30-day trial membership to Audible.

"Not simply about one mission, [Genesis] is also the history of America's quest for the moon... Zimmerman has done a masterful job of tying disparate events together into a solid account of one of America's greatest human triumphs."--San Antonio Express-News

China’s Long March 4C rocket launches military satellite

China today successfully used its Long March 4C rocket to place a military Earth observation satellite into orbit.

Launched from an interior spaceport, the rocket’s lower stages thus crashed uncontrolled in China.

The leaders in the 2022 launch race:

39 SpaceX
34 China
11 Russia
6 Rocket Lab
5 ULA

American private enterprise still leads China 54 to 34 in the national rankings, and the entire globe 54 to 52.

Please consider supporting my work here at Behind the Black. Your support allows me the freedom and ability to analyze objectively the ongoing renaissance in space, as well as the cultural changes -- for good or ill -- that are happening across America. Fourteen years ago I wrote that SLS and Orion were a bad ideas, a waste of money, would be years behind schedule, and better replaced by commercial private enterprise. Only now does it appear that Washington might finally recognize this reality.

In 2020 when the world panicked over COVID I wrote that the panic was unnecessary, that the virus was apparently simply a variation of the flu, that masks were not simply pointless but if worn incorrectly were a health threat, that the lockdowns were a disaster and did nothing to stop the spread of COVID. Only in the past year have some of our so-called experts in the health field have begun to recognize these facts.

Your help allows me to do this kind of intelligent analysis. I take no advertising or sponsors, so my reporting isn't influenced by donations by established space or drug companies. Instead, I rely entirely on donations and subscriptions from my readers, which gives me the freedom to write what I think, unencumbered by outside influences.

China’s economic problems continue to worsen. I keep wondering what impact it will have on space. Surely they will continue to toss off planet all hardware in the pipeline but after that? Their space program is their glory so I imagine they will keep propping that up. China has adopted U.S.’ solution to financial problems: print more money. So far so good, but I don’t see how it can be sustainable. My personal strategy is to not be the one without a chair when the music stops playing.

Here are some notes from this article:

What China’s Economic Disaster Means for Markets
    • China’s real estate sector is broken. (this is 1/3 of their economy)
    • domestic growth is sputtering as the nation continues to enact on-again and off-again CCP virus-related lockdowns.
    • Unemployment rates are worrisome. The unemployment rate among Chinese urban youths reached an astounding 20 percent
    • China is owed around a trillion dollars worth of unpaid loans given to third-world countries as part of the Belt and Road Initiative. Beijing is getting pushback from these countries and may be pressured to forgive some loans.
    • China’s economic woes will impact U.S. and Western multinational companies. Starbucks reported a 40 percent drop in the second quarter in China sales. Nike’s second-quarter non-GAAP earnings fell by 55 percent in China.

Based on fifty-eight years of observing Red China, I believe that a combination of inculcated zeal, personal curiosity, and government incentives will have Commie astronauts on Luna and Mars before anyone else. IMO, had a NASA-like organization been around in Jefferson’s administration, it would have advised that poling up the Missouri to reach the Pacific was too dangerous anyway, and especially, without a 23,762-page procedure manual.

Sidebar: The Republic of China, Free China, or the ROC has its seat on the island of Taiwan. The so-called Peoples’ Republic of China, Red China, would love to erase the phrases “Republic of China”, “Free China” and “ROC” from the world’s vocabulary. Please don’t let them. Calling the ROC “Taiwan” plays into their propaganda.

    China Notes:

FoxCon and Toyota manufacturing plants have been closed down. Drought has almost drained the Yangtze river – thus stopping hydropower input to the grid.
Even tho China is still building one new coal fired power plant a week. 215 currently approved or building – current government plan is to continue at that rate till 2060. Rate has been Constant since 2010. That does not include the dozens of wind, solar, hydro and at least 75 nuclear stations in the works.
Since 2010 the USA has closed 290 units and the EU 190. America closed an additional ten from November 2021 to May 2022.
Governor Newsom of California just days or so ago signed an Emergency Bill to keep the last of six? Nuclear Plants in operation for five more years, but that must go through the NRC renewal of the FEDS since their operating permit was allowed to end WithOut the normal Renewal Process, Stamps to keep it running. Could be some interesting ? Eco ASSAULTs on the Permit in the coming Months.

Estimates of the Total debt outstanding by the Bank of China and the Regional Banks are from 49 to 90 trillion, outstanding. (Their National Debt) (Gordon Chang on multiple JBS broadcasts). (USA National Debt 31 Trillion).

The Property Market (100 Ghost Cities) is the way citizens of China, have placed their money since they do not trust the banks and are forbidden from moving funds overseas.

Another city of 21 million has been locked down, citizens must stay in their homes:—
