Harp & VolfgangTwins – Paint It Black
An evening pause: The music is great, but I generally dislike these music videos that put the performers in some beautiful place that is also a place where it is absolutely impossible to record a performance. They then do lip synch and editing to hide the fact that the performance is faked. Ugh.
Still, as I said, the music is great, and the scenery is beautiful.

Readers!
Please consider supporting my work here at Behind the Black. Your support allows me the freedom and ability to analyze objectively the ongoing renaissance in space, as well as the cultural changes -- for good or ill -- that are happening across America. Fourteen years ago I wrote that SLS and Orion were a bad ideas, a waste of money, would be years behind schedule, and better replaced by commercial private enterprise. Only now does it appear that Washington might finally recognize this reality.
In 2020 when the world panicked over COVID I wrote that the panic was unnecessary, that the virus was apparently simply a variation of the flu, that masks were not simply pointless but if worn incorrectly were a health threat, that the lockdowns were a disaster and did nothing to stop the spread of COVID. Only in the past year have some of our so-called experts in the health field have begun to recognize these facts.
Your help allows me to do this kind of intelligent analysis. I take no advertising or sponsors, so my reporting isn't influenced by donations by established space or drug companies. Instead, I rely entirely on donations and subscriptions from my readers, which gives me the freedom to write what I think, unencumbered by outside influences.
You can support me either by giving a one-time contribution or a regular subscription. There are four ways of doing so:
1. Zelle: This is the only internet method that charges no fees. All you have to do is use the Zelle link at your internet bank and give my name and email address (zimmerman at nasw dot org). What you donate is what I get.
2. Patreon: Go to my website there and pick one of five monthly subscription amounts, or by making a one-time donation.
3. A Paypal Donation or subscription:

I was at one of their concerts earlier this year in Stoughton, WI. Talked to the twins – asked if they “lip synced” – they said their mother does the editing and it’s all real. Camille (I think) was quite offended by the term.
Chuck Kuecker: Based on my knowledge of filming, I am not sure I believe them. In this video I wonder how the sound was recorded, if they were really playing live. I do not see any microphones, anywhere. The sound quality is far too good for it to be captured from any recording equipment far from the source. And to get such great sound of the harps the mike has to be close by. If hidden they did a very astonishing job.
There is NO WAY the audio provided with this video was a product of the video cameras that provided the video.
As Robert has noted, the sound quality is far too good, and there are no extraneous sounds from the surrounding environment. Only so much can be done to clean up audio that is recorded in such a setting.
The audio must have been recorded in a sound studio.
Thanks for this — they are touring the US (harptwins.com/shows), and will be here in San Antonio for the Highland Games 6-7 April!
Found this comment on one of their videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhOhGhq0e54):
Q. How do you make your videos and get the sound?
A. This is a self-made music video. We do not record in a studio. We are always really playing (and singing when we sing) when we film, that is how we are able to stay together. :) :) Our videos are self-made samples of music we arranged ourselves for concert performances. Our videos are only our 2 harp parts – but No backing track, No Karaoke, No loops, No harp overlays, No studio, No crew, No director, No videographer, No producer, etc. – just the 2 of us doing everything ourselves! However, like anyone making a “music video,” we do not use the sound we recorded through the phone held by our mom or our little camera. There is always too much ambient and environmental noise outdoors (wind, birds, people, dogs, planes, etc.) plus filming from different directions and distances. We record ourselves LIVE playing together (at the same time) in our living room and add that sound to the edited video footage. :) :)
Robin K Juhl: So they are “lip-synching” their playing.
No one ever suggested that they weren’t the ones playing the music. All I noted was that this was not a live performance, that the sound was recorded in a studio and edited over the footage. And for me this was much less effective than seeing that live performance. Too much fakery.
