Starlink and SES team up to provide broadband service to cruise lines
SpaceX’s Starlink constellation and SES’s satellites in higher orbits are forming a partnership to provide cruise ships better global coverage for broadband.
The SES Cruise mPowered + Starlink service would mostly use SpaceX’s low Earth orbit network (LEO) and satellites in medium Earth orbit (MEO) from SES. In northern and southern regions, apart from the poles where there is no service, SES vice president of product management for maritime products Gregory Martin said their joint offering would leverage its geostationary satellites.
SES would sell and manage the multi-orbit service when it becomes operational later this year and SpaceX would get a cut of the sales, Martin told SpaceNews in an interview.
It appears by partnering their services, the two companies make the deal better for cruise companies.

SpaceX no longer taking losses to produce Starlink satellite antennas, a key step to improving profitability
SpaceX is no longer absorbing the cost of the Starlink antennas that it sells with its satellite internet service, a company executive said on Wednesday.
“We were subsidizing terminals but we’ve been iterating on our terminal production so much that we’re no longer subsidizing terminals, which is a good place to be,” Jonathan Hofeller, SpaceX vice president of Starlink and commercial sales, said during a panel at the World Satellite Business Week conference.
SpaceX sells consumer Starlink antennas, also known as user terminals, for $599 each.

Why go on a cruise if you are going to park yourself in front of the Internet? You can stay at home asnd do that for a lot less money
Of course, as someone who sails recreationally, I don’t understand today’s cruising. The whole point of a modern cruise ships seems to be to avoid giving any hint you are at sea.
Even my 83 year old mother Skype’s with her friends in 4 states and 2 countries about twice a week.
She also skype’s for the various charities she works with and that woman gets more text messages in a day than I do in a month.
If she even went on a cruse she would still want high speed connectivity.
