Persecution is now cool! After decades of quiet effort by leftists to eliminate all conservative teachers from the halls of education, we are now seeing the results: Students at the University of Southern Maine are boycotting the classes of one education professor, Christy Hammer, while also insisting she should be fired, simply because she stated in class this basic fact of biology: that there are only two sexes.
Almost the entire class of 22 students walked out, all except one, demanding a meeting to be held with the university’s School of Education and Human Development.
Elizabeth Leibiger, who is non-binary, said she felt ‘under personal attack’ after Professor Hammer said there were only two sexes. “I let her know I didn’t think she was qualified to teach a class about positive learning environments. It’s the ultimate irony,” Leibiger said to Fox News.
A restorative justice meeting was held, but Professor Hammer’s position didn’t change. Two dozen graduate students in the class continued to demand that the university replace Hammer, believing her to be transphobic. Students are now refusing to return to the classroom in which she teaches and will only attend class if a new educator be appointed.
The class is a requirement to complete the graduate-level Extended Teacher Education Program and become a certified teacher in Maine. [emphasis mine]
The university has refused to comply with the students’ demand that Hammer be fired. At the same time, its administrators are also pandering to these thuggish students. First of all, what the heck is “a restorative justice meeting” other than a typical Orwellian 2-minute hate session for these childish students to throw a tantrum. For the college to play that game is shameful. Nor did the college’s pandering end there:
“We have developed an alternative plan for this class and will be opening a new section of this course for those students who would like to move. The original section taught by professor Hammer will continue for any student who wishes to remain in that class,” a university spokesperson said.
With such close-minded intolerant attitudes, none of these protesting students should ever be allowed anywhere near any classroom. If they can’t handle being taught by this teacher, they should simply be told they won’t qualify for their teaching licenses. Public education will be better off.
Nor will the college suffer should it take this hard-nosed position. A petition in support of Hammer quickly obtained 2,000 signatures.
The biggest irony is that, based on Hammer’s own Twitter feed, she is very clearly leftwing in her politics, as indicated by this statement that leads her feed:
K-12 education; sociology; anthropology; history; politics; psychology; socialism; human/civil rights; higher ed. Holy trinity of race, sex, and class.
I would not be surprised if she has herself participated in the decades-long effort to blackball conservatives from college-teaching positions. She is now inheriting the wind from that effort. The next generation has been well taught. It can no longer can handle hearing opinions and facts it doesn’t like, and responds immediately like Stalinist thugs when challenged, aggressively acting to destroy anyone in their path, even leftists.
Nor is there any hope that these badly taught students might possibly be taught some tolerance, if the adults in the room are so timid they cannot stand up to this narrow-mindedness.

They are basically saying “teach us only what we want to hear”.
What do you know. You buy them their books and send them to school to learn something, but at the first sign of reality they reject it in favor of their fantasy.
The students have now conflated gender and sex. These used to be separated so that they could be distinguishable from each other, but these students have been so poorly educated that they think that they are the same phenomenon. They have been so poorly taught that they think that they can make their own fantasies reality just by demanding them to be so.
This may work in the fantasy art-world of the X-Men, but it does not work in the real world of science, engineering, technology, and mathematics.

Like it or not Gabbard made a political power move the other day and left the Democrat party for rational reasons that you, me and many others would agree with. It was strategically timed, and it has great political potential.
And now she has aligned with a Conservative gubernatorial candidate in Arizona, Carey Lake who will almost certainly win her race. Another political power move for Gabbard.
She is making strategic political moves and she is getting play in the media and she is setting up for the future of the Democrat party if and when they come back to their senses, and that may never happen. Or she is setting up for a spot in the Republican party.
She is attractive, she says common sense things, and she has some cred. And it is growing. I have stated before she is probably too Liberal for me, but she appears to be a player and will be a go to candidate for those disillusioned Americans looking for some sanity in politics after the Democrats self-destruct on November 8th.

But she is working to develop her profile and she is getting noticed as she is doing it.
Regular everyday Democrats or dissatisfied Republicans or Independents are going to be looking for that person that is not, the insane “Progressive” and someone that they can identify with, and Gabbard will fit that bill IMO.
If you remember during the primaries where Gabbard was on the stage, I stated then that she is the future of the Democrat party after these rubes on the stage with her crashed and burned.

Edward: I got your sarcasm. I only felt a need to point out what these so-called students were actually training to do, which is more horrifying because it isn’t sarcasm, but reality.
To expand a bit on A. Landemesser’s remark about needing a calculator to multiply 8×8; I have a sibling with three graduate degrees who does not know her times tables. By the time she got to that point in public education, it was no longer required. I have never really gotten my head around this. When I was in the third grade, knowing the multiplication tables to 12×12 was a no-kidding requirement for advancing to fourth grade. Period.
Maybe not the individual capability, but the societal expectations.

The students that walked out of Dr. Hammer’s class must be really scared now, knowing there are at least 2,000 transphobic “zombies” out to GET them. Does anyone know if the petition was anchored inside the “free speech zone” on campus? Can it be stipulated that just two natural genders signed the petition. Just wondering?
