Scientists are proposing that Europe send a probe to Titan and sail it on that planet’s methane lakes.

This concept had been proposed to NASA last year but it was rejected when the Obama administration shut down the planetary program.

I don’t know. While on the lake, it will be on a liquid that is nearly all the same. I suppose that it could travel along a shoreline and get pictures of the shoreline at different points so there may be some value there. Better, in my opinion would to have a balloon that would be able to view many different locations with potentially many different types of geologic features.

IIRC, the “boat” would not have a means of propulsion, so in short order it would be stuck on a bank.

    The proposal includes propulsion:

The new plans, called the Titan Lake In-situ Sampling Propelled Explorer, proposes a boat-probe, propelled by wheels, paddles or screws.
