They mean what they say
And “they” are the evil murderers of ISIS and other Islamic terrorist killers.
Here we have ISIS, a murderous, genocidal Islamic supremacy group. They have stated quite openly that they intend to carve a caliphate out for themselves by any means necessary, and by “by any means” they mean as violently as possible. They view the West, Christianity, Secular Humanists, Hindus, everybody who doesn’t conform to their brand of Islam as the enemy, and they have only one tactic for dealing with the enemy : kill them and keep on killing them until they are either all dead or their remnant is so cowed that they convert to Islam. They justify this using the Koran and various Hadiths and they will quite happily tell anyone who will listen exactly what they believe is divine rational for their actions.
The author then describes how the left-leaning intellectuals of the west seem to have a fundamental inability to recognize this reality, an inability that has gotten so profound that it now feeds a blindness that makes them willing to even help these killers in order to avoid seeing them for what they are.
Read it all. The author makes a reasonable effort to understand why the intellectual leadership of the west, in the U.S. and Europe, seems incapable of understanding the threat of Islam. In order to defeat these terrorists, we are going to have to overthrow the blind fools we presently consider our intellectual elite. And to do that we need to see them for the fools they are.

The left is not stupid – but can be incredibly naïve – they know exactly what radical Islam is and capable of. In their minds, we are the true enemy along with the rest of Western civilization. They seek our destruction first – then build their new utopia – then deal with Mo’s boys (because they are smarter than us). If radical Islam helps in that downfall – then better for them.
I don’t have much hope for the continuation of America in its current configuration, and believe is just a matter of time.

Because they do have a fundamental inability to recognize reality. Progressivism isn’t based on a rational understanding of the observable natural world. Progressivism is an entirely intellectual construct with no basis in reality. A Progressive’s attempt to understand reality is akin to using hyperbolic geometry to describe our Euclidean world. It’s impossible to do, and the attempt will be frustrating. Thus the Progressive can never be happy: their philosophical construct never gives the results they want.

I concur with your conclusion concerning the continuation of America as a free, independent, and integrated nation. I give the country 25 years, tops. I’d love to be proven wrong, because the power vacuum will be filled by governments I wouldn’t particularly want to live under. It is, in fact, already happening under Obama’s feckless ‘leadership’.
My opinion is that the fall started in the 60’s when childish behavior became the accepted norm in ‘adults’.

This is a true story.
I was over a friends house one day. His neighbor was a University Professor with two masters degrees at least.
Well the prof was cutting his lawn that day with his obviously new lawn mower.
I watched as he would cut his lawn and then empty the grass bag by shutting off the lawn mower and turning it all over and pulling the grass out of the bag by the hole in the bottom. Then putting the grass hand full by hand full into the garbage bag.
A few days later ha had a lawn service out to investigate why he had new dead spots all over his lawn.
He never noticed that they corresponded to each time he turned over his lawn mower to empty the bag. The gas would spill out and then killed his grass.
He was married to another professor and had two children who graduated high school way early, went on to get doctorates and become professors themselves. And not one of them was any smarter than him.
We have several other professor stories.
And the left thinks these are the people smart enough to run the nation and or the world?
The true elite want the wars. Mr, Raytheon, McDonell Dollars, Big Oil, etc…and the soldier boys love to play war with all their toys…No helping it, read the history books.

I am a soldier boy (albeit older) – I’ve played war with the toys – and you can never understand.
but its OK – there will always be those who when faced with the true complexity and reality of the world, will freeze like a deer in headlights with a puddle at your feet.
War happens when politics (negotiations and deals) fail.
The intellectuals who failed at keeping the peace always seem to slink away and leave the resulting war to those who they claimed to hate. Those they claimed were always wrong.
They make quite a few messes and leave the clean up to their parents just like children.
Then they come running back in after the trouble is passed and start claiming those they left the clean up too did everything wrong and they are back to “fix” things.
The author was close in his assessment. The violence of the two world wars seriously upset those who believe that humanity can be bred genetically and taught mentally to be non-violent. This is why violence in the Western World is frowned upon – even to the point that the bullied is the one punished when he fights back. Especially at that point, because the victim, up to that point, had been such a pacifist that the leftists will insist that he remain that way.
That the proper response to a bully is to fight back, be he in the schoolyard, the caliphate, or the Wolf’s Lair (later the Führerbunker), is lost to those on the left. They will advocate some form of peaceful resolution, even with those who refuse to be peaceful – and see those who will be peaceful as easy targets. Chamberlain gave Hitler everything he wanted, and rather than stop him it emboldened him. Obama is giving Iran (and others) everything they want, and they are not stopping, either.
A peaceful world is the left’s utopia. Unfortunately, the left is not willing to recognize that not all cultures are as socially advanced as their dream culture. Even the culture of the left is to bully those who disagree with them – even to the point of insisting upon their execution, an act of violence that should repulse the left but does not when applied to those disagreeable, heathen disagreers (e.g. right-wingers, climate skeptics, and “bitter clingers”). Those who disagree are the immediate enemy, but those who also believe in central control are seen as allies and are not treated as the threat that they are (thus you may state that you will be more flexible after an election).
The enemy of your enemy may be your ally, not necessarily your friend – until you are sure, don’t treat him as one, or you may find a knife in your back, as Paris did.
Whether it is realistic to expect eugenics to breed-out violence in humanity is another matter, but it is clear that even if it is, it is many generations from succeeding – especially in areas of the world where violence is acceptable behavior, encouraged by the religion against those who are not of the religion.
The left behaves as though they have their own religion – atheism – with their own high priests and priestesses telling them what is politically correct today. Al Gore, Barack Obama, Elizabeth Warren are just three. They tell us that we are heretics if we do not believe in global warming; government control; or the evil of being Caucasian, male, or successful without government assistance.
Once these political correctness directives are declared, anyone who disagrees is excommunicated. Friends will call you racist or fascist then will not speak to you – conform or be shunned. It is the fear of being shunned that makes it so difficult to see the reality that the directive is wrong – and for atheism’s sake, don’t ever tell anyone that you see the reality. ‘The emperor has beautiful clothes – we all see how ornate and glorious they are.’
