The first reflected light from an exoplanet detected
For the first time scientists have detected directly the reflected light coming from an exoplanet.
Astronomers using the HARPS planet-hunting machine at ESO’s La Silla Observatory in Chile have made the first-ever direct detection of the spectrum of visible light reflected off an exoplanet. These observations also revealed new properties of this famous object, the first exoplanet ever discovered around a normal star: 51 Pegasi b. The result promises an exciting future for this technique, particularly with the advent of next generation instruments, such as ESPRESSO, on the VLT, and future telescopes, such as the E-ELT.

Please consider supporting my work here at Behind the Black. Your support allows me the freedom and ability to analyze objectively the ongoing renaissance in space, as well as the cultural changes -- for good or ill -- that are happening across America. Fourteen years ago I wrote that SLS and Orion were a bad ideas, a waste of money, would be years behind schedule, and better replaced by commercial private enterprise. Only now does it appear that Washington might finally recognize this reality.
In 2020 when the world panicked over COVID I wrote that the panic was unnecessary, that the virus was apparently simply a variation of the flu, that masks were not simply pointless but if worn incorrectly were a health threat, that the lockdowns were a disaster and did nothing to stop the spread of COVID. Only in the past year have some of our so-called experts in the health field have begun to recognize these facts.
Your help allows me to do this kind of intelligent analysis. I take no advertising or sponsors, so my reporting isn't influenced by donations by established space or drug companies. Instead, I rely entirely on donations and subscriptions from my readers, which gives me the freedom to write what I think, unencumbered by outside influences.

” . . planet-hunting machine. . .”
“They say there’s no devil, Jim, but there is. Right out of hell, I saw it!”
Unrelated but related:
At a point in his life where he has no reason IMO to deceive, this high level military / government official in a position to know publicly makes a definitive statement.

I always get the idea that if we could see them couldn’t they have already been looking at us? And with far better equipment.
“Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence” (Carl Sagan), and he doesn’t have any.
Just based in the length of time the universe from what we can observe has existed, our solar system is only about 1/4 as old as the universe itself. How many civilizations could have existed and died even before our solar system was even formed? How many might still be around and how much further are they developed than we are? 10,000 years? 100 million years?
Its not something IMO to ignore, people have been observing something unfamiliar to their understanding for hundreds / thousands of years. Im not even attempting to say what it is that they have been “seeing”, but I rather think that its something rather than nothing. And if it is something, what the hell is “it” ?
Evidence is a must, agreed, if your able to gather it.
Has the government VA bureaucracy by default created evidence in this case?

An interesting case with substantial documentation.
If we are contacted by an extra-terrestrial entity, we’d better hope our leadership follows the Hawii’an model. They won’t, but one can hope.
Blair,
Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly do you mean by “the Hawii’an model”?
